When do you have to upgrade bonding to meet current regulations?

Consumer box change - yes
Extend circuit?
Change light?

sorry if this is a silly question!

Whenever you feel like complying with BS7671.

131.8

No addition or alteration, temporary or permanent, shall be made to an existing installation, unless it has been ascertained that the rating and the condition of any existing equipment, including that of the distributor, will be adequate for the altered circumstances. Furthermore, the earthing and bonding arrangements, if necessary for the protective measure applied for the safety of the addition or alteration, shall be adequate.

Appology accepted :D

Does say "shall be adequate", not "sized to the current regs".

The NIC take a view that for minor works you could say 6mm is adequate, especially where the actual incoming service is plastic.

They do say addional considerations should be given for PME supplies.

They would also prefer to see it upgraded where possible.

This was discussed at one of the last seminars I attended.

Adequate - 'just good enough'.

Stated in the current edition of BS7671 that the earthing should be adequate (read as 'just good enough') then how can it mean anything other than compliant?

If it's non-compliant then is it 'just good enough' or inadequate?

It could be non-compliant by either being non-existent or under sized.
Would either be adequate or inadequate?
