    Earthing a light fitting

Having removed the rose from the light fitting, there seems to be an earth attached directly between the rose terminal and the light cable anchor, with a cross between a washer and a spade grip, as shown in the photos below. My question is, will this be a good earth? It looks a...

MI 3/4" to 15mm compression elbow

Hi, I've just bought a thermostatic shower bath valve like this: http://www.bathstore.com/files/PRODUCT_GROUP/283/LARGE.jpg and i think i need 4 x 3/4" MI to 15mm compression elbows for it - are these available anywhere? All I can find is 3/4" to 22mm and 1/2" to 15mm :( Cheers Trev

    Chrome Shower head attachment

Hi, I recently bought a Merck shower head, like this: http://www.bathstore.com/files/PRODUCT_GROUP/787/LARGE.jpg which came supplied with a compression elbow, one arm of which is 15mm, fair enough. But the larger olive measures about 18mm internal diameter, and seems very loose on the...

    Routing cable through loft joists

Hmmm, just been up into the loft, removed the T & G flooring, to find the cables have been laid in shallow notches cut into the top of the 3-inch joists  Now, should I make the joists even weaker by drilling through them to route the new cable for the downlights, or use the existing...

Downlights in bathroom with dimmer switch - Wattage?

Just had a word with my friendly local electrical supplier, and he suggested wiring the cable directly into each of the transformers, rather that using choc-boxes or junction boxes at each of the 4 downlights....presumably this depends on whether there is enough room in the transformer to fit 2...

Downlights in bathroom with dimmer switch - Wattage?

Thanks again, that makes connecting in parallel much clearer to me. Bit of a bind about the depth of the space being too small for adequate ventilation - i guess i'll have to cut through the chipboard where necessary to let the air in. Luckily the loft is only used for storage, so it shouldn't...

Downlights in bathroom with dimmer switch - Wattage?

Thanks for your replies. Yes What does "connect in parallel" mean? In terms of the actual wiring, rather than generalisations about "in series" and "in parallel". I think there should be a useful picture in the FAQ, but it's not available.....the URL is...

Downlights in bathroom with dimmer switch - Wattage?

Hi all, and what a great forum this is. We're doing up our 2.3 x 1.8 metre bathroom, and from reading various posts on here, this is what I think I'm doing: 1. Replace exisiting ceiling rose with a 4-terminal 5A junction box. 2. From this, run 1.5 mm cables to 4 separate 60VA...
