Mixing new and old model RCBOs

Guys, Wylex didn't use the word "form factor", that's my jargon, we use it at work when dealing with computer components. I'm always trying not to use silly words like that but when I keep hearing them, monkey see monkey do. I too have slight doubt on Wylex's last email, but it has shifted the...

Mixing new and old model RCBOs

Wylex just emailed back saying that there is a slight difference in the form factor of the RCBOs, so the cover doesn't sit right! I've dry fitted and the cover sits fine and solid, so I'm not worried! They said aside from this they can be mixed.

Mixing new and old model RCBOs

I'd love to know the tech behind this? Curious.

Mixing new and old model RCBOs

John, I agree it's highly unlikely that there's any issue. I've still time to decide.

Mixing new and old model RCBOs

I just dry fitted the two types and they fit fine in this NH consumer unit. It does sound like it's just a type approval issue. But I'll rather play safe so going for all new RCBOs. Thanks for the advice!

Thanks everyone. I'll be checking all my vents and air bricks.

Mixing new and old model RCBOs

To be clear on what Wylex said: I have a bunch of older NSB RCBOs. Wylex said these these can be fitted into a new NH1404 consumer unit. But the consumer unit cannot contain a mix of older NSB and newer NHXS RCBOs. Electrician appears happy to use my older NSB RCBOs and top up with new NHXS...

Mixing new and old model RCBOs

Guys, my electrician says that the new model domestic Wylex RCBOs are a direct replacement for the older NSB model RCBOs. But Wylex have said that the old type NSB cannot be mixed with the current model, but the old type can be fitted to a current NH consumer unit. I've asked my electrician and...

    Water under the ground floor

Thanks JBR, Ree. To answer questions: Are you on any kind of slope or hillside? - We are on a hillside. It's a fairly big hill and we're half way up it, approx 30m above sea level. Why is the hill relevant? Is there a retaining wall near the house? - No retaining walls that I can see aside...

    Water under the ground floor

Guys, the floorboards are up in my house during renovations, and the other day, after some serious rain, I found a small puddle in the underfloor space! I cannot think where it could be coming from. We do have a high water table here. The floor joists are all solid and I never found any damp...

Fridge and computers on RCD circuits

Thanks guys. I'm not going to worry about the fridge. If I do get problems then a dedicated circuit can be installed later. Thanks for the feedback and help.

Fridge and computers on RCD circuits

Hi, it's not a HMO, it's a private house. The meters are just there to meter and sometimes we have a lodger. An RCBO free circuit should be possible in this case. And can even be fitted later, access is easy.

Fridge and computers on RCD circuits

More thinking from practicality, ie if the RCBO trips while I'm away, so the fridge doesn't go cold.

Fridge and computers on RCD circuits

I've decided to go for an RCBO consumer unit. Each room is on it's own ring main (with a meter). There isn't a seperate socket for the fridge, how concerned should I be about this? I'm wondering if I would be going too far if I get a separate socket installed on a separate RCBO or MCB. I always...

    Are MCBs and RCDOs interchangeable?

Could an older consumer unit that has an inputter switch and MCBs have the MCBs replaced with RCBOs? Or do the RCBOs need a special consumer unit? Also am I right that not all brands of MCB can be mixed with other brands due to the position of the live bar that distributes the live?

Third hinge instead of hinge security bolts?

By lining do you mean door frame? The gap is very small so will have trouble getting foam in there. The door frame is aligned to within 1mm using window packers.

Third hinge instead of hinge security bolts?

What do people think is better, hanging a door on three decent hinges or two hinges and a pair of hinge security bolts like these? This is to up the security on an internal door. The door uses a hardwood door frame fitted with a fairly heavy fire door.

Custom flushpipe for high level cistern?

Thanks for the tips. I did some trying and using 32mm waste pipe the joint at the toilet pan and at the cistern does hold though slightly loose.
