Building regs on two 30 sqm garages side by side?

How far apart would two structures need to be to be exempt?

Levelling my garden - potential can of worms?

That's what I'm looking for advice on :) Should I worry about it or should I not? The garden fence is being replaced as part of this job. But yes, good point, the neighbour has a pond that could be affected. But it is on the side that we are raising, so we won't undermine it.

Building regs on two 30 sqm garages side by side?

I'm considering the option of building a 30 sq.m garage which would be exempt from building regs because it's under 30 sq.m and would be on a raft foundation. But I would then want a second structure next to it, which would be a sheltered area that allows me to work on my car project outdoors...

Levelling my garden - potential can of worms?

Yep, so I will take 25cm soil from one side and move it to the other side. I've been told by a friend that I don't need to wait for the soil to settle, to use a compactor and put the slabs straight down. So, I should remove the top soil, do the levelling and then replace the top soil?

Levelling my garden - potential can of worms?

We're on a hill and the two side of out 5.5 X 30 m garden have approx 0.5 m height difference. I'll do a full survey soon with a laser level because I don't know how much it slopes length ways. We're about to dig a hole for a raft foundation for a prefab garage. We'll have the digger for a...

Permission to change roof of extension from flat to pitched?

Thanks. I have low pitch roof tiles so I can get into these limits (just). I take it building regs will apply? Is it just for the roof, or will the reg apply to the entire extension (even though it's not being modified beyond the roof?).

Permission to change roof of extension from flat to pitched?

Bit of an unusual one here, so I've not been able to find my answer online. We have a single storey extension, 3m at the rear of the house which was built in the 1970's. It has a flat roof which is leaking. We want to change it to a pitched tiled roof. Do we need permission? End of terrace...

How to specify height if building is on a slope?

I just asked an architect at my office, and he just said similar. He said to specify the height at the bottom and top side of the slope.

How to specify height if building is on a slope?

It's a planning application. Has to be as we are within 2m of a boundary. And the eves are above 2.5m. If the height is measured from the highest ground level then that solves things. Though I think the council planning officer stated the lowest ground level when I spoke with them, though...

How to specify height if building is on a slope?

The council have told us that the height of a building is measured from the ground and not floor level as the architect had told us :/ Having removed the fence we can now see that there are some serious height variances where we wish to build so we're doing a survey. We unsure if we should...

Finding out about utility cables/pipes before we dig?

The engineer that's designing the foundation for our new garage has mentioned that we should check if there's any water, electricity, or fibre in the ground before we dig. Seems prudent, but I think that any third party cables/pipes would have come up on the searches when we bought the house...

Building garage & upgrade later to usable space/habitabl

As mentioned in my other post we're building a large 60 sq.m garage for use for our motorsports hobby. Our worry is that this is quite big and may not add value to the house or even some people have said it could devalue the house because a future owner wouldn't even know what to do with it. The...

Cavity wall or not for garage/workshop?

We're building a 60 sq.m garage workshop for our projects (motorsports, car restoration etc). We've done a budget, excluding labour which we will do ourselves, it comes to less than £10k including a cavity wall. The cavity wall adds approx £1500 to the cost. It takes away valuable space. It...
