    Brick terminology help please

Thanks. At around £30 m² they would be around half the price. I wonder if it might be possible to have brick on the inner garden face and brick slips on the road side that I don't care about so much? After all I can't see both at the same time...

    Brick terminology help please

Thanks for your input. Can you please explain why a 300mm thick wall becomes complicated? Are certain sizes of wall difficult to build?

    Brick terminology help please

All the other walls here are about 16-18 inches. I think anything slimmer than 12" would look mean.

    Brick terminology help please

Thanks. Pig ugly is what I'm trying to avoid. Otherwise I'd just have it all concrete blocks. Much cheaper. The reason I'm trying to keep costs down is that to get bricks that blend in with my old house I'm having to look at handmade bricks. About £1 each! I'm already making it as...

    Brick terminology help please

Thank you (y). I've googled Rat-trap bond. I don't think that's what I would want. As I said, its for facing a block wall so I wouldn't want it a full brick depth. So now I've Googled 'brick on edge' but still not getting any images of a wall built like that. As I mentioned, it's with the idea...

    Brick terminology help please

Hello I want to have a 1m high wall built around my garden. My idea is to have a block centre and face it with bricks both sides. In order to keep the cost down I was wondering if I could have the bricks laid on their long edge. But googling this seems problematic because I don't understand...

    Oven cooling fan still running

Thank you. When it was running constantly I had left it on for a couple of hours before eventually switching it off at the wall. Even the next day, as soon as I switched the wall switch back on, the fan started again. So now that it's stopped I'm wondering if the fan itself has broken. I used...

    Oven cooling fan still running

Thanks. But they seem to be the oven thermostats. It's the cooling fan above the oven cavity, the one that keeps the controls from frying, not the fan in the back of the oven by the element that evens out the cooking temperature. Thanks though.

    Oven cooling fan still running

Ah, thank you for finding that part! I was searching using the words thermal switch and was getting nowhere. I used the oven last night for about 2 hours. I left the cooker switched on at the wall so the fan would run to cool it down. Then I forgot all about it. When I went to bed I noticed...

    Oven cooling fan still running

Hello I've got a Smeg SE398x-5 single cavity oven. Since yesterday, the oven cooling fan has decided to keep on running. So I have to turn the oven off at the wall. I'm guessing that the thermal switch on the cooling fan has broken. But I don't know if it's a replaceable part, or if you have...

Are UK ceiling rose covers universal?

When I was checking over the other fittings looking for a brand mark I noticed that the cables were wrapped around the cordgrip a different way, and they don't have the extra cable grip tab inside the rose cover. (visible on my first 'after' photo.) The wires looked strained, and some have glass...

Are UK ceiling rose covers universal?

It took me ages. About an hour and a half including finding tools and dropping the tiny screws on the floor etc. Thanks for your help everyone. :)

Are UK ceiling rose covers universal?

Ok. So I got my glasses and some steps and looked for a brand on the light fittings in other rooms. Nothing. So I bought an MK pendant and measured the cover on that. Interestingly, that hasn't got any brand embossed anywhere on it either. Of course it didn't fit. But as ban-all-sheds said...

Vintage? Ha ha, you must be young. The house was rewired early to mid 80's.
