Combi fed mixer shower won't maintain temperature (oscillates)

One extra fact, when boiler fitted. It had a cannister on mains feed. Something to to with hard water. Unfortunately it's quite hard to access, and I'd have to cut through back of a kitchen cupboard. Do these cannisters need replacing. Do they simply stop purifying water or do they prevent flow...

Combi fed mixer shower won't maintain temperature (oscillates)

Hi Living with three females and their patience with me is running out! So far I have tried the following: 1) replaced mixer bar (would have just replaced inner cartridge thing but Triton said it was discontinued). 2) have fiddled with pressure reducing valve feeding bathroom (fitted by me yrs...

    Modern toilet flushes

Fixed. Yey Eventually the receiving nut under cistern clearly was turning on itself. And I had no choice but to take cistern off. Cleaned everything thoroughly. Fitted new system. Tested the cistern outside for a few hrs that it actually held eg including bolt washers. Anyway new donut, all...

    Modern toilet flushes

terryplumb could I ask one more quick question if I happen to fit new parts sooner rather than later... The white bit which screws into the plastic nut under cistern .... When originally fitting this I had to cut it down a bit. This is because the length of the part seemed to be longer than the...

    Modern toilet flushes

Absolutely not, but thanks for asking. I know this could have been it. I understand how most of it works. I have he column is definitely above level of water and there is a twist on column to lock it in position etc. Thanks

    Modern toilet flushes

No. I'm pretty much where I was before Saturday. Very slow trickle. I have solved the small leak on floor which I had assumed was condensation. I'm secretly hoping it might cure itself (I know things like this tend to get worse). But maybe one day something will move and a bit of debris will end...

    Modern toilet flushes

I didn't mind this joke. But in my defence I had fitted it a long time ago, and I assumed there was some kind of thread in the actual porcelain hole. I know that might sound ridiculous. The close couple design is silly in my view. As I have just posted, removing a cistern is fine if all is...

    Modern toilet flushes

Update: In the words of the EU bloke... There should be a special place in hell for.. whoever designed the close coupled modern flush system toilet. My toilet probably has multiple issues. The main seal is fairly tight (although I accept that the fact I don't want to take cistern off wall means...

Will do. Some of our replies are out of synch but I've now seen all your advice. Love the phrase 'you may get lucky'. I think most of my plumbing successes rely on this!

    Modern toilet flushes

Thanks. I didn't see this when I was writing my last one. I get it that I might be twisting the washer out of shape. Also the downward pressure I mentioned in relation to other washer would also temporarily flatten / help the other washer if there's a problem. I'm going to have another go at it...

    Modern toilet flushes

Perhaps now that you've helped me realise there is a nut underneath, I could screw it in tighter. Worse that can happen is nut will eventually turn on itself. Could mangle washer but I doubt it one that size. The mystery as I've mentioned before... When applying downward pressure to column the...

    Modern toilet flushes

OK, so I fitted this toilet about 10yrs ago. Fitted the donut etc. Had to use lots of sealant as well. I honestly can't remember what nut went between. However when fitting small white thing, it definitely screws in. Earlier today, I assumed it was screwing into actual porcelain (sorry). I...

    Modern toilet flushes

? Thanks for trying to understand my problem. I attach a photo of I can. Both washers shown in photo have been replaced. I apologise for referring to the smaller white thing as a large nut. Yes it is a close coupled toilet (I'm not a fan). I certainly haven't moved the cistern itself. No need...

    Modern toilet flushes

The large washer I just referred to... I suppose it is possible that I haven't squashed it enough, however I have hand twisted quite tight. My other experiences of plumbing tell me that over tightening is also a risk. I feel if I did another 90 degrees ( and you have to so that cannister fits...

    Modern toilet flushes

I'm not sure what you mean. Yes. I also replaced the large washer between bottom of cistern and the large nut/screw in thin that canister locks into (locks in with 4 guides and a slight twist) My comment about extra downward pressure stopping problem means I am convinced it is where drop valve...
