Saving energy or money, Channel 4 Unpacked.

Vented are the old type containing a heating element and a fan which blows the hot air over the clothes and then out through a hole in the wall. Very few dryers available now are that type, their only benefit is that they are the cheapest to buy. Condensing are the same thing with an added...

Earth funnies and phantom voltages on lighting circuit

Pretty much. Earthing was required to metal cases and metal frames of equipment, but not to anything which was all insulated. That is from the 8th edition, 1924. Lighting circuits were not a special case - anything else that didn't require earthing wouldn't have an earth conductor such as...

How do I remove these recessed spotlights

    Solar PV and Smart meters

That will not be happening. What will happen and is already happening is that those who insist on sticking with old meters will pay a fixed high rate where all of the units are the same high price all of the time. Those with smart meters have a selection of cheaper tariffs to choose from...

Tumble dryers (heat pump) - any makes and models to go for? Any to avoid?

No. They have more in them than a traditional type so theoretically more things that could go wrong - but that doesn't make then inherently unreliable. The extra components are those found in any refrigerator or freezer, and no one would claim those are unreliable. They do take longer to dry...

reconnecting the electric from a demolished building

Theoretically, but this really depends on whether the supply for temporary purposes is the same as the permanent one, which all depends on what is being built. For a single domestic dwelling perhaps. No idea what the OP is intending to build there.

Best way to connect up downlights in soffit

Rather obviously that sensor needs a cable to it. One cable. There is no 'out of the garage into this, and then into the first light'. Connections between the sensor cable, the supply and one or more lights can be done inside the garage.
