    Installing theatrical lighting

Nice one. I'll try and play that card about the safety and local authorities. At the end of the day I don't want to do it, because I don't know what I'm doing with it. It's not exactly fitting a batten or pendant lamp to the ceiling.

    Installing theatrical lighting

Well he said he doesn't want them to be, but that's what I suspected about the rigging. That's what I've used before when I used to do set building at college, I just didn't know if alternatives were available. I know exactly what's going to happen. The lights that come will be for rigging...

    Installing theatrical lighting

I was in a meeting with our hotel owner yesterday and he's told me that he's organising delivery of a couple of spot lights that he wants to be installed for an upcoming concert in our ballroom. Now we've already got a scaffolding tower which will be fine and there are 13A sockets on the...

    Coloured bulbs for decorative applications

At xmas we are asked to put a load of fairy light time cables up and through the trees in the car park at work. Most of the bulbs had packed in when I took them down at the end of last xmas season, so I'll need to replace the bulbs ad wondered if now that incandescent lights are out of the...

Who makes the best LED bulbs?

None of them are dimmed like, however if the rest of the hotel is anything to go by, the actual light fittings won't be the best quality. Look nice, but sh1te in reality. Same goes for the kitchen really. No dimming, but the light fittings were reasonably low price. I bought a couple of...

Who makes the best LED bulbs?

Well I know and although I can understand it from a consumption point of view, I really do think they should have waited until we have the technology to accurately replicate the light given from incandescent bulbs which we just don't. Where I work is a perfect example. I work in a country...

Who makes the best LED bulbs?

I'm looking to kit our kitchen out with LED GU10s but I just don't like the apparently unavoidable blue hue from them. I know all LEDs start off as blue and they adjust them accordingly to the colour required, but it just makes the room look like it's lit by a cheap torch and drains the...

    Tidying up old hurricane lamps

I've got 4 old parafin lamps that I'd like to clean up and paint. I just wondered if anyone could recommend what kind of paint I use to paint them with? It would only be the tank and the upper parts above the glass shroud. Would I have to prime it or anything like that?

Where the heckins can I get this from?

Seco that's exactly what I'm after. Where did you find that?

Where the heckins can I get this from?

I'm after a black UPVC 100mm equal junction with no extra bosses. All that's going into it is a toilet waste on the first floor, but it needs to go in a really tight space so the kind with the bosses sticking out of the side are no good. I thought it would be really easy to get hold of...

How to put right a badly done job of self-levelling?

I know I'm probably going to be shot down with comments of how I should have got a contractor in to do it, but I've made a proper mess of self-levelling half of my kitchen floor. It's not something I've ever done before so I really wasn't happy about doing it in the first place, but my...

Replacing timber frame around garage door.

I know people have asked similar questions. I did do a search before I asked but nobody quite asked the same question from what I could find. The timber frame around my metal "up and over" door is beyond rescue so needs to be replaced. I've got my measurements and I'm going to try and get it...

    2" Hepworth Pipe

Ok, so I need to shorten a couple of pieces of pipe on our pool system but I don't have any spares or pieces of pipe. Does anyone know where you can buy Hepworth 2" and 3" pipe from (grey) and the relative fittings? I called Plumb Centre and PTS and neither of them do it. They do 2" pipe...

    What are these brackets called?

Yeah I thought about that too. The only problem I saw with that was being able to screw big screws in. Because of the shape, they would have to go in on an angle, but whatever, I'll ask about them. Thank you!

    What are these brackets called?

Sorry I maybe should have been more clear, I don't want to know what the brackets in picture actually are, I just need something like that which could hold a piece of 4x2 in place across the door. Thanks anyway. Blacksmith you reckon?

    What are these brackets called?

I need a few brackets for building a brace on the back of some double doors in one of our outbuildings but I'm struggling to find the kind of bracket I need for it online. I need a bracket that's kind of S-shaped, but if you understand what I mean will have a flat section that will screw on...

    Washing Machine Breakdown

Of course.... duh! Sorry, I'm a bit thick. Make and Model are Hotpoint Aquarius WDL520. 7Kg(not sure if that might be relevant). I can't see any other numbers on the casing at all though apart from the power ratings on the back of the appliance.

    Washing Machine Breakdown

Just to update, I've checked the plug and the connections are absolutely fine, so it's something further down the line to the appliance. I've tried switching it on twice and it just pops the MCB straight away.

    Washing Machine Breakdown

I've come in to work this morning and found the washing machine in our staff room has been switched off all weekend after it was tripping the power supply. It's currently switched off with the door locked full of stinking mop heads and dirty water. Any ideas what could be wrong with it...
