Clearance of electrical work for selling house

Just say "Yes the house has had work done, and no i don't have certificates". Easy!

    DIY underground chamber

I never understood the point of putting servers in bunkers. They are useless without their network link, and that will most likely be buried in a plastic conduit about 30cm below the surface. What attack are they supposed to be safe against?

    Permisssion to knock a doorway

You don't need permission for this.

Potential house buy but worried by the cracks

Those cracks look ancient and are therefore probably not worth worrying about. The house looks rather neglected/derelict, in other houses those kinds of cracks would have been filled in in the normal course of maintenance and you'd never know they were there.

    Moving F&E tank

You won't need any of that guff if you're changing to a combi. In fact you won't need any pipes in the loft at all - no tanks, no hw cylinder, etc. So you don't need to care what the pipes are. Just drain and decomission your heating system and cut the lot out where it enters the loft, ready...

Heating Design Advice: Combination or Separate

We have a seperate system with a pump for the HW. 2 young kids. Haven't had any problems, the water heats up again in 20 minutes if it ever gets cold, and you have torrents of hot water on tap. Also, it's been entirely reliable for 4 years, except for one valve motor needing replacing. The...

    A numbers of 'problems'

To repair the hole, you will have to break out the plasterboard until you hit some wooden bits. Then fix some wooden battens to the existing rafters to allow you to fix a new square of plasterboard too. It looks like there is no insulation there. Must be freezing in that room!

    Load Bearing Wall?

I would personally say it's not load bearing, given the plasterboard as you say and that it's between joists. That is not an expert opinion however.

    Straightening Polypipe

Maybe try heating the area with a hairdryer and then holding it in place while it cools?

    Reasonable quote?

No one is entitled to a living - you earn it. That means that if you DIY your heating system and get someone in to do the bits you can't do, there's nothing wrong with that. Gas work is work involving gas! Also flues. Anything which requires you to be registered, trained, certificated, etc.

    Reasonable quote?

Are you having trouble reading? I said he should do the plumbing bits himself and get someone in to do the gas work. This thread is far too full of grumpy plumbers.

    Reasonable quote?

Why, because it takes away business from plumbers? You aren't entitled to a living. Anyone DIY inclined could easily do the job and pay much less. This is a DIY forum, you know.

Do it yourself and get someone in to connect the gas?

Baxi / Potterton -- is drain down needed?

Draining down consists of attaching a hose to the drain cock and then opening said drain cock, then waiting a while. Not £265 worth of work! However that might just be poor itemisation by the plumber. £265 for a day's skilled labour isn't unreasonable.

Trusteel 60's detached house, is a steel build all that bad?

You will probably want to externally insulate it. Also look at these pictures.... http://www.taylortuxford.co.uk/portfolio
