How to extend TV aerial booster

Our loft conversion is almost complete but we have discovered the builder has left our TV aerial amp/booster under the floor boards in the insulation. We are having a new TV aerial fiited and the guy will need access to the booster box to change the wiring. The builder said they will just get...

Best loft conversion underlay for carpet?

Yes building control are involved but the builder books the visits himself for a particular weekday as he has said there is an inspector he tries to avoid. I saw the person coming out once and she was a young trainee and didn't spend long up there and just passed it. I think he has done what is...

Best loft conversion underlay for carpet?

Our loft conversion is almost finished and (among other issues) we have discovered our builder has just reused our original loft insulation under our new loft floor. Chatting to neighbours also having lofts done they were advised to improve insulation to reduce sound issues for bedrooms below...

    Loft conversion concerns

No thankfully we insisted on a tin hat so have rain cover but are otherwise totally open. Just thought he wouldn't have stripped roof until steel confirmed but wondering if he started so he could say commencement deposit now due.

    Loft conversion concerns

He did say we could have gone through him and it would have made things easier.

    Loft conversion concerns

Yes I did both planning and building control. There is a detailed structural engineer report for bc but I don't understand lots of it.

    Loft conversion concerns

Thank you but if I sack him I will be left with an unfinished loft as all other local builders booked up for at least a year. This alone puts me in a tricky position. I have only paid the agree 20% up front when work started. I have no building knowledge and nobody to ask. The local council will...

    Loft conversion concerns

That's true but I was done by a cowboy builder at my last house. Thankfully not a huge job but I had to pay to have it removed and redone. Also the cowboy became threatening and I have been affected since, worrying about using good traders etc. This neighbours concerns are playing on my fears.

    Loft conversion concerns

Yes I'm pretty sure he is. I know another loft conversion was due to start just after our original date but our start got delayed (not sure why).

    Loft conversion concerns

Currently having a loft conversion and one of our neighbours has raised concerns that our builder may not be up to scratch. This builder came recommended by some other local friends. The first potential red flag was he wanted to deviate from the insulation specified by the structural engineer...

    HELP plaster stained fireplace

We have a limestone fireplace and recently had to have the room it's in replastered. We were told to protect the stone so we sealed it up with correx very thoroughly as instructed . The plastering was done and all seemed fine. We kept the mantel sealed until the plaster was dry and had the first...

    Damp patch on wall

Thank you for the replies. I am concerned about the response from the roofer. He came out this morning and said there is nothing wrong with tiles or guttering. In his opinion it's because of the direction of the recent rain. This rain has hit the flashing and it needs repointing or something. It...

    Damp patch on wall

Thank you! I will aim to take a photo tomorrow. We've taken one of the inside in case it dries up. I will call the roofer we used and ask if he can come out and have a look.

    Damp patch on wall

We didn't have the gutters done but we have the details of the company they used somewhere. It was done about 2/3 years ago now. It's a company that claims to specialise in removing concrete guttering. They have put up PVC guttering. This is the first time we have seen a damp patch but not sure...

    Damp patch on wall

No I made sure we chose a roofer that carefully took it off by hand.

    Damp patch on wall

We have been doing up our 1960s house for the last year. The previous owners did nothing unless they had to. One thing they did do is replace the old concrete guttering. As we have stripped off old wallpaper in the bedroom we found blown plaster along the ceiling which is probably why they...

Concrete gutters removed - loft very windy

Is it normal to sound like the roof is coming off though? The gusts are so bad they wake us up. We will be putting in a new loft hatch which should cut the sound down. We were also worried the wind would damage the loft contents as it sounds so bad.

Concrete gutters removed - loft very windy

Whilst having some quotes for other roof work I mentioned to a roofer that we have what sounds like a gale blowing in our loft on windier days. There do not appear to be any missing tiles etc. The previous house owner replaced concrete gutters with plastic ones and this roofer suggested that due...
