Moved into our current house nearly two years ago. It's a mid-80 link-detached with a WB CDi 37 Combi boiler. The boiler is in the first floor airing cupboard. It appears to be a microbore system as there are 10mm surface mounted pipes coming down the wall from the first floor. They all convert...
You're quite correct. I was thinking the red was also connected to 1; which leaves two spare wires - the red (3) and black (not connected). I suspect there are two separate cables: red and black (old style); and (new style) brown, blue, green/yellow and one with white sleeve conneected to 3. If...
Aren't we jumping the gun a bit? I would need to know why there are three extra wires first, before pronouncing exactly what needs to be done - apart from making safe, in a terminal block, the earth wire and the neutral in T2.
Despite being called a "heat only" boiler, which usually means it's open-vent with an external pump, the Keston Heat2 is actually a "system" boiler with a built-in pump. Is this the Yonos Pico pump you mention? Or is that a second, external, pump fitted because you have a very large installation...
There's an inconsistency between the statements above as a "sealed system" normally means a system boiler boiler with integrated pump; while a "heat only boiler" is usually open vented with a external pump.
We need to know exactly which boiler is being fitted - make and exact model.
If the old...
Both pumps have been discontinued by Grundfos, so what you have found are end-of-line stock.
With 35 radiators, you have a very large system. Has anyone calculated the system index (max head and flow rate), so you know what size pump to buy?
Spoke to the heating engineer this morning. He couldn't explain what was going on, but wondered if the condensate drain pipe had got blocked again - it is only 22mm plastic all the way from boiler to drain, including going down the side of the house. He couldn't come until Wednesday or Thursday...
CH Temperature Control
When you turn past 6 up to max you can feel a switch operate.
What, exactly, does the switch do?
What happens when you turn the control back, i.e turn the switch off?
I can't work out which way is up on this pic. It looks as if the pump is lying on the floor pointing upwards which, if it is, is the worst way to install a pump as it will wear out very quickly due to lack of lubrication. The pump shaft mut always be horizontal.
If the pump is installed as at...
Clambering on the sloping garage roof on a cold Sunday afternoon to pur water down the flue is not high on my to-do list. However, I have found this in the Installation Manual:
To Clean the Condensate Trap
5.1 Pull condensate pipe out of the adaptor.
5.2 Remove trap from boiler.
Clean trap and...
Reset all parameters this morning (8.E = 0). The boiler resarted and went into the venting cycle for several minutes. The temperature rose and, at one point the boiler seemed to go into the syphon fill program as -//- appeared, but only for a few seconds. The flow temperature is now rising to...
Good point. The display only shows the flow temperature. When the syphon is filling it should be showing -//- alternating with the temperature, which isn't happening. This suggests a fault in the PCB. Maybe resetting all parameters would help?
The boiler is about 12 years old and was working correctly until a few days ago when it decided to go on strike - no heating or hot water. The pressure had gone down to zero. I tried to repressurize it but had diffuculty fitting the key - so did my son, who pointed out that there was some water...
That's an eight degree differential. The boiler is designed to work with a 20 degree differential. One of the reasons for this is the very high pressure loss across the heat exchanger when the flow rate is high, e.g with a small differential. Increasing the setting of the bypass by turning screw...
I hadn't noticed the discrepancy. You are correct in saying that the LS valve has to be closed to reduce the flow and increase the differential, i.e the difference between flow and return temperatures; and vice versa.
The language is confusing - temperatures can be high or low; differentials...
So the TRVs could all be stuck closed or partly open. Remove all TRV heads and check that the pin in the metal body can be pressed down without sticking and returns when released.
If the pins all work correctly, but radiator temperatures are different, the system needs to be balanced.
