    Bricking up vent

In our hallway we have a vent to the outside. This was necessary when the house was built because of the type of boiler that was in there. With our new boiler the plumber said the vent is no longer necessary and we should close up the hole, which s good because it's freezing in the winter...

Help me track down a leak

Think the grout is ok - we provided it - Granfix Hygienic Maxigrout - claims to be suitbale for use in regularly wet areas and fully submerged areas. I've had a look at the joints, and there are no obvious cracks I sealed the bit where the shower screen joins the wall on the inside - is...

Help me track down a leak

Yeah, I've tried doing that, but not with much success. I'll keep it up to see if I can spot anything. It's that nasty knack that water has of finding strange routes to places.....

Help me track down a leak

I kind of thought of that the first time I saw it. I had a go at sealing the inside of the shower screen (I now realise you are not supposed to do that so the water has some way of getting back out or something?), so it's sealed there now. The only thing I can think of is that the water is...

Help me track down a leak

Hi, I had the bath panel off the bath, and I noticed that after having a shower, I was getting a damp patch appearing on the wall behind the bath (it's not tiled there because it's out of sight). I removed the sealant and I could see that the grout behind was soaking and coming away, which...

Sealing shower screen - why the outside?

Is that the same on shower screens that go over a bath? I've resealed my bath, and though this seams to have stopped the majority of the water leaking, I am still getting a little. I can only imagine that the water is leaking from the shower screen. It's not sealed on the inside edge, so I...

    Leaking bath waste

If I unscrew it the other way, will this in effect drop the waste down so I can remove the old sealant, without it all falling apart? Apologies, I would try it now, but I am really tired, and when you are tired, that's when things go wrong!

    Leaking bath waste

Modern technology is great... Is it just a mater of using a screwdriver to try and tighten it? (clockwise??)

    Leaking bath waste

Any clue as to how I take it apart? From the top I can't see any screws, just looks like a bolt head with a hole in it! I really don't have much room for movement underneath either. Is there anyway of cleaning it in situ with some meths on a cloth, and then sealing in the gap or anything?

    Leaking bath waste

Can I do this without taking the waste apart (read - I wouldn't have a clue how to do this)? I mean, can I just attempt to reach around and squirt some sealant in? Also, the bath doesn't leak when the waste is closed, so I guess this further confirms that it is only leaking from underneath?

    Leaking bath waste

Quick ask for help! I noticed that there is a slight leak from the pop-up bath waste I have. It's more noticable when a bath is emptied than say, when the shower is run. From what I can feel, the water is leaking from between the underneath of the bath, and the big round sealing washer...

Sealing shower screen - why the outside?

That's fair enough, but surely if you sealed the inside as well, then water couldn't get in at all, or am I missing something?

Sealing shower screen - why the outside?

While dozing in the shower I noticed the join where the shower screen meets the wall isn't sealed on the inside, but it is on the outside. I thought this might be a mistake, but looking on the net I have seen this installation guide (this isn't the screen I have, but it's the only one I could...

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

Dextrous, Again, thanks for your help. It is a breath of fresh air to have someone that gives useful answers, doesn't laugh at your problems, and doesn't always say your doomed! As I said, I've now clipped the pipes. I've removed the old sealant and am waiting for the area to fully dry...

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

You were right, bath waste does go slightly "uphil". :( About a cm over the 1.5m run. Is this going to cause any major problems?

    Sealing bath

Thanks very much (again). I'm actually not too bad at applying the stuff, done it a few times (around the edge of the bathroom floor for example, another place that wasn't left very tidy!). I find getting it off to be the hardest, been going round with a stanley knife, but some of the...

    Sealing bath

I've had a good look under the bath, and I think the waste pipe is ok. Unfortunately, I can't raise the bath - the bath has been fitted and then the wall tiled down to it, so the tiles overlap the end of the bath. I think this is fairly standard procedure! Anyway, I've got most of the...

    Sealing bath

I know this has been asked before, as I have read it, but for me the search option isn't working! Anyway, as some of you have seen from my previous post I was having a little trouble with my bathroom. I took a shower today and as the bath pannel was off I noticed a section of the wall behind...

    Water hammer (?) clipping pipes.

It is - 22mm got hot! Slightly off the original topic. I have a combi boiler the hot water leaves there in a 15mm. Why would it change to 22mm? Is it because the boiler was replaced at some point and the old pipework left in or something?
