Im just looking for a natural finish I supposse. Ive allways used oils on timber I like the natural idea of it, that may not be true though with the spirits in it. Surprised you suggest it is difficult to apply, Ive done many worktops bits of furniture and solid doors in the past and find it...

Hi, Im doing up an old house and have been using Craig & Rose chalky emulsions. Didnt have any problem with white I used for a pantry but used a light mustard yellow for the kitchen and when I cut in round the ceiling I had a 2" border. When I then rollered to fill in the walls I could see...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

one final question. The pump is too hot for me to hold my hand on it. Is this normal. Could gunk any corrosion etc bonded to the pump make it run hot? I effectivly had a new system fiited boiler etc and because this pump had been replaced by the previous owners for the third time only about...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Agile, I dont have pump instructions and didnt post a pic because it would have caused confusion. The system has for years had the pump under the floor and theyve been replacing the pumps. Ive been here 10 months got rid of the crap Rayburn and had a new boiler put in, the pic I did eventually...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Ok I will take Hailshams advice though and put it to the top for good practice. Im just trying to understand all this. What about rotating it to the horizontal then, should slackening the pump valve connections allow me to do this without drainging the system. Gate valves are only 3 months old?

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Perfect I get all that and have watched a video on u tube on how to split this exact pump so I should manage that. If I slacken the larger pump valve nuts will I be able to rotate the whole pump or will I have to slacken the compression fittings to the 15mm pipe? Hopefully not so I dont have...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Mr Hailsham. Used to because this pump was used in another part of the house. The boiler was replaced and moved (used ot have a Rayburn range) Ive only been in the house 10 months. When the new boiler went in the pump was put next to the hot water tank, it used to be inaccesible under the gound...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Excuse my ignorance I dont know what these pumps look like internally. Are you saying the threaded connections and gate valves are ok? I just need to slacken them and rotate the whole pump so the silver screw comes down slightly until it is horizontal?

I dont understand the term attitude? Is this the same as orientation? Ive never heard attitude used in this context before. So whats your thoughs about having the Grundfos on its back? Is there a best practice which way it should be oriented? Thanks

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

so why the pumps going then? If the water is clean and allways been clean (I can only presume) and you are correct then it must have been an air problem, the pump running dry? Why else would pumps fail if the water is clean, no debris etc

the pump used to sit on its back, the big silver screw and Grundfos face palte with all the spec facing the sky.

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

There is no point me posting a pic as the pump which as just failed has only been on the new system since November. I therefore put its failure down to something from the last system. I know they had severe problems from day one with the Rayburn, heat exchanger was replaced, fan replaced...
