    2 x 2.5mm² T&E in 25mm round uPVC conduit?

Interesting. That does have a certain appeal. I'd need almost as much 4mm as 2.5mm, so it would cost more for the cable, but that's not necessarily a show stopper. 4mm is thicker and therefore I guess it would be less easy to put in, but again not necessarily a show stopper. Then...

    Sounds good to me.

    2 x 2.5mm² T&E in 25mm round uPVC conduit?

[/url] Ordinarily it would be fine, but at the minute I am fairly keen on threadability. 1. One side of the space would be rough brickwork - not the best for threading 2. The space behind capping isn't very deep - again not the best for threading 3. Plaster can get through gaps and leak...

    2 x 2.5mm² T&E in 25mm round uPVC conduit?

I'm pretty sure the 35mm deep double box I looked at had four knock-outs along the long sides: 25, 20, 20, 25, although other boxes had only 20mm holes. Sounds good to me. Good plan. This would defeat the threadability objective, although as you imply that would not be an issue for everyone.

    2 x 2.5mm² T&E in 25mm round uPVC conduit?

It is a single-storey building with a loft space. The wiring would be in the ceiling so the "in" and "out" cables both go upwards from the socket. Since both cables are running the same route between the socket and the ceiling, the logic is that we might as well save effort and make a single...

    2 x 2.5mm² T&E in 25mm round uPVC conduit?

I read a thread recently ("T & E in steel 20mm conduit") about a chap who had ended up with 2 x 2.5mm² T&E in (about) 20mm steel conduit as part of a ring circuit on a 32A MCB. ban-all-sheds pointed out that in this situation the current rating of the cable would have to be reduced and that...

SSE Power Distribution: almost not bad

I have a new house in Reading which I'm renovating (including a complete re-wire) and I want to have the meter moved. The REC/DNO appears to be SSE Power Distribution. After I phoned their 0845 switchboard, they sent a letter asking me to write to them with more information or, they wrote...

    telephone wires colour coding

This is not a sensible question to ask because you should not need to know the answer, even if there was a reliable answer. What are you trying to do? Wire up an extension socket? If you have a main phone socket then it will either be a modern Linebox, or an old-style Master socket. You...

    maintained exit light

I don't think you can convert them. Many moons ago, I had a summer job working in a place where they made emergency lighting. (In fact they mostly converted ordinary luminaires into emergency ones.) If I recall correctly, you have a major difference because maintained lighting has to be...

    Broadband and phones

ADSLnation also do a microfilter faceplate with terminals on the back for the unfiltered signal: http://www.adslnation.com/phpapps/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=90 As far as I can tell it is more-or-less the same as the Clarity.it one, and the choice comes down to price /...

Sorry you probably don't want to hear this but Tiscali are one of the poorer providers out there. Here is a comparison with two other (mediocre) mass-market providers, and one other decent provider...

best point of power supply for a power shower

No neither of these will work. I think a bit of background might help you decide if you are confident about doing it. (For what follows, I have slightly simplified the terminology.) (I am not an electrician.) A shower uses a lot of Amps; think 50 Amps or so and you will not be far off...

How far to strip outer insulation on tail?

At some point I shall be wanting to have some shiny new brown and blue 25mm2 tails put in between a two-pole six-way Henley block and a shiny new MK Sentry CU. I can happily connect up the CU end because none of that will be live. Even if I am not actually making the connection to the...

    Explain the Neutral???

Current travels along a conductor because there is a potential difference between the two ends of the conductor. In the case of conductors used to supply power, this potential difference will be very small. When you say "the neutral is considered to be at zero volts", the "zero volts" to...

    How to install earth pit?

Saw the next door neighbour's board today and his supply is PME, complete with a little notice saying so :-) I didn't look to see if his supply comes off the same pole. Looks like I might need to put in a call to the REC... Bill

    How to install earth pit?

The plan is to have a new, separate 100mA RCD before a new split-load CU (with 30mA RCD, so we have discrimination). The existing arrangement is what appears to be an trip switch (ELCB?) before a distribution board (with fuses). In fact there is a Henley block feeding two trip switched...

    How to fit metal capping?

Didn't fancy the idea of plastering straight onto the cable. I know modern plaster is nothing like as bad as the old lime plaster, but I didn't fancy the idea of having even modern plaster in contact with the cable. Also metal capping might give someone a clue before they accidentally poked...

    How to install earth pit?

OK. Good question. OK it looks like I will have to look into it some more. The point of the exercise is to establish a proper earth for a building with a TT supply which currently has an earth of unknown pedigree, so I'm not going to be satisfied unless it's measurably proper. Bill

    Bulbs popping

Every house will be different, and it will also vary at different times of day. To find out the voltage, you will need to measure it. Probably the safest way is to get a Plug-In Mains Power & Energy Monitor from Maplin (L61AQ). They are £24.99, but I got one when they were on special at...

    How to fit metal capping?

Ah. So at no point does the screw go through the capping. You can get away with just having the side of the screw head and washer gripping the capping because there is a screw either side of it. OK. OK so the purpose of that is to lose the sharp edges where the capping has been cut. (I guess...
