New internal front door and redecorating

Hi all. We've got a small porch way at the front of our house which has UPVC French doors leading in then immediately in front of this in the porch is our main front door. Now the main front door is a very big wooden effort with some pimpled window panels around it which looks pretty rubbish...

    Topping up patio joints/grout...

Had my patio down for about 8 weeks or so now and got round to giving it a wash down over the weekend as I was using some rust remover on bits. The water (and no doubt some of the rust remover overspill) appears to have taken away some bits of grouting. Some of the current grout felt sandy and...

Removing rust marks from Indian sandstone (and general cleaning)...

Thanks for the recommendation r896neo. Have just popped an order in for some of the Lithofin. Will give it a whirl at the weekend. Will have to hunt down some hypochlorite - might just try it out with some bleach though in the mean time.

Removing rust marks from Indian sandstone (and general cleaning)...

Luckily its only on the one slab so I think it is from when they have been stored they have been lent on something metal rather than it being something that has come about naturally. Thanks for the two recommendations. The Lithofin Bero may be a shout and the Weiss says it is a deep rust...

Removing rust marks from Indian sandstone (and general cleaning)...

Hi all - just wondering if anyone has any experience with or knows what would be good to use to remove some rust marks I've got on one of the paving slabs on my patio. It doesn't look like surface rust so not sure simply power-washing will do anything! (however I am going to try!) If it...

Kota Black Limestone patio.... (or should i go Kandla Grey Sandstone?)

Hi mate, thank for your reply. We've now had the patio laid yesterday. Are there any sealers that you would recommend for Kandla Grey stone? Going to look at doing it in 6-8 weeks like you said.

Kota Black Limestone patio.... (or should i go Kandla Grey Sandstone?)

Hi all, will be getting a black limestone patio fitted in the coming weeks and I want to do everything possible to make sure I don't end up with something that looks awful once its laid (as i've seen a few posts online showing washed out, grey patios). Should I be sealing the limestone before...

Patio build - anything to be aware of? (with pics!)

Quite deep then. I probably will mix it by hand to be honest, going to go and pick up some cement and sand tomorrow, got plenty of small stones to mix in with it too. I'll see how I get on doing it by hand, I like a challenge. I've got a big mixing tubs I can use. I'm not in any major rush to...

Patio build - anything to be aware of? (with pics!)

I haven't mixed much in to be honest. The majority is in a huge pile waiting till I get around to ordering a skip! The breaker made short work of the majority of what was down though, there was 3 different layers of asphalt which once I'd done some initial breaking was pretty easy to take up...

Patio build - anything to be aware of? (with pics!)

Thanks for the pointers mate, hopefully tomorrow i'll have it all broken up so will have a better lie of the land to see how is best to progress. I've kept a pile of rubble and broken bricks etc to one side in case I needed to fill anything in that is deep. In terms of the bricks that I use...

Patio build - anything to be aware of? (with pics!)

Hi mate, thanks for having a quick read of my plans/idea and offering some suggestions. I'll be hiring a breaker tomorrow to break up the asphalt and get it cleared so that should take me down a good couple of inches once its cleared out. I'll probably go down a little bit deeper round the...

Patio build - anything to be aware of? (with pics!)

Hi all, figured its that time of year to get out in the garden and get it sorted ready for Summer. Only been in the house about 6 months so I've got rid of some awful decking that was in place and we want to get a patio down. I want to give this a go myself instead of paying for someone (at...

    Dry verge with spanish slate

Hi everyone, just wondering can you fit dry verges onto a roof with Spanish slate? The contractor doing my work quoted me including fitting these onto an extension that has been built but he is now saying that he didnt realise they don't fit with Spanish slate as the slates are too thin...

    Screeding (SLC) - floor prep

Hi, sorry, I meant a self-leveling compound, not screed! OK, so do I not need to PVA the floor or anything? The concrete base has been down for about 3 weeks now so should be well dry. Do I just need to sweep it and make sure it is as free from dust as possible?

    Screeding (SLC) - floor prep

Hi all, need to screed a small 1.7m x 1.7m area in an extension which has a new concrete base in it. Is there anything I need to do to the base to prep it before laying the screed? It'll only be a 5-10mm screed going down. Thanks.,

£950 for new Baxi Duotech 28 and new rad....

OK that's a fair point and probably something I'm never going to be able to find out really as i'm sure if I ask if its stolen he is going to say no. Anyone any thoughts or experiences of the boiler in question? Are they worth going for?

£950 for new Baxi Duotech 28 and new rad....

It's not a stolen boiler. It's a brand new one. I'm not sure if part of the reason the cost is cheap is that I am already paying him to remove and refit my current boiler once my building work is done and its not that much more work for him to put a new boiler in at the same time. I'm...

£950 for new Baxi Duotech 28 and new rad....

He did say he wouldn't have them at this price forever as he has managed to source the boilers for pretty cheap and he is already being paid to remove our current boiler etc anyway. Might take him up on the offer though if it is a good deal and he is going to flush it out etc too.

£950 for new Baxi Duotech 28 and new rad....

Hi all. Bought a house not long ago and in the process of having some work done and our plumber has asked if we have thought about changing our boiler whilst we were having the building work done (the boiler is prob approaching the 10 year mark - its an old British Gas branded Worcester Bosch...
