    Baxi venturi valve problem

Its a big one that you load with salt tabs and yes, it does the whole house apart from the fresh cold tap in the kitchen.

    Baxi venturi valve problem

I posted on here at the beginning of the year concerning my shower running hot, then cold all the time. Its fed by a Baxi 105e instant which has served us well for a very long time. After a couple of calls from our friends from British Gas (on contract) which was unsuccessful in the fix, I had a...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Thanks Ian. I think that if I'm going that far I may as well buy a new plate heat exchanger and fit it. May be lucky and find it behind the venturi valve. You never know. Steve

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

I'll take that as a no then!

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Oh. Right. Can I back-flush it?

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Could really do with a bit of help on this as the whine is getting on my wick a bit! Especially when taking a shower. It started a couple of days after the venturi valve was fitted so I'm guessing it may be something to do with that but the guy from Brit Gas did fit a kit to the DHW valve. I...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Bit of an update on this Baxi. Working well. Lots of constant hot water and the shower no longer going cold. However, the boiler does "sing" when any hot water is drawn. I seem to recall that there was a mod for this boiler regarding this fault. Can anyone remember exactly what it was? Thanks...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Success! It was indeed the veturi. The plastic support had dried out and had fallen off, letting the spring and valve seat fall out. I retrieved all the bits except one small leg on the valve. Just couldn't find it. All working as it should now. Many thanks to all who contributed to this fix...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

You couldn't make it up! Went onto the local water supplier website and they have a power problem about four miles away from us which has dropped our water pressure. The result was the same as before. No hot at the shower or the basin tap in that room. Got me wondering if they dropped it a week...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Just waiting for the venturi to arrive but this morning it went right back to the way it was when all this started. The shower is cold all the time and the basin hot tap in the same room is running cold. Neither will switch the burner on so the moods in the house are not good! I've now got a...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

I took this pic to show the parts guy. You can see what mess has crusted itself round the fitting. It may have leaked from the small union above it.

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Thanks for all that gas112. You are correct. When I got to the shop it was only the end bit so I've gone on ebay and bought the whole fitting (not the block). Something has been leaking around the fitting as its got a lot of white powdered crud on it. I'm going to put some lemon juice on it to...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Well that's another thing I didn't know about. Thanks gas112 for that. I've got one on a ticket at my local boiler parts shop who have one with the part number 248051. Looking at it on the boiler, its been leaking for some time and there's a lot of white crud all over it. Got to be worth a look...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Yes a good clean and flush through would probably do it but I'm not a Gas Safe person so it wouldn't be me who does it. The boiler has to be removed from the mounting to do it I think, and its about 50kg. As mentioned in post 4, if its got to come off the wall I may as well change exchanger for...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Many thanks for that Ian. If what you say about the boiler is true then perhaps a plate heat exchanger swap will probably be the next big thing. I suppose the problem will only get worse with time but I'll look into what the softener is doing in case its loosing its usefulness.

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Turned the DHW pre heat down to 3/4. It took a bit longer to for the burner to cut and the shower went cold for about four seconds, so when the temp went down to 50 degrees (three lights) without turning it off, I lowered the temp to 1/2 the scale and increased the temp a bit on the bar. The...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Just done that. Water pressure on an outside tap is just over 4 bar so opening a second hot tap is not good for the shower. With the shower running and a basin hot tap running the burner takes a lot longer to cut but when it does, the water remains hot, even on the cut duration. Another thing...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Thanks Ian. Yes, I had the conversation with the Brit Gas engineer when they came the second time. He looked at that and said all was well so he didn't change any parts. I've run the other hot taps and none of them go cold. The boiler is in a cupboard in the bathroom so I can see what's going...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Thanks. I agree. If its to come out, then a new one would probably be a better decision as they aren't exactly dear to buy. Looking at the installation manual its probably possible to back flush it but a bit of a job in itself to drain, disconnect the piping and arrange a drain away. I see on...

    Combi shower going Hot-Cold-Hot problem

Hi. Thanks for the reply. The water is hard here in Kent and it was replaced once before but the guy who replaced it used an exchanger that had less plates than the boiler was originally fitted. I got so fed up with all the problems with the heating and the washing machine that I had the...
