Strange goings on in the bathroom

Hallo Lectrician - I looked into hiring last night, and it scared me...could quite easily run a bill of several hundred to try to find & fix an intermittent fault, so I'm going to fall back on the five senses ! Thanks, David

Strange goings on in the bathroom

Steve - The only time that the GSHP controller is programmed to switch on the immer is at 0400 on saturday morning for the pasteurization cycle, and then it will use the gshp to get the dhw up to 50 before it calls for the immer. If it can't get dhw up to 50 by gshp, then it won't call for the...

Strange goings on in the bathroom

Hi Steve, No I haven't ruled out a GSHP controller fault. TBH, I'm not sure how to, given the random nature of the event. Likewise, being there to measure voltage is a matter of luck. I'm sure there's a datalogger out there; any ideas where I can hire one ? Thanks, David

Strange goings on in the bathroom

Morning everyone, Got an usual install and weird things happening in the bathroom. Immersion heater is switched via a contactor by the GSHP controller, which is about 30m away in an outbuilding. Contactor is in a box in the airing cupboard near the tank. Immer can also be switched by a...

    amazing rcd test regime

I test mine now and again...ever since I pressed the test button (to isolate the board) and nothing happened. TT system, Zs ~ 120 ohms, so I replaced it pronto. On a related topic, I've got a small farm with 4 off 3ph DB with 100mA RCD, 7 CU & a large no of final ccts straight off the...

    Heat pump

Morning all, I've got a georgian 4 bed detached. Scope for insulation of walls & floors is, well, limited. Got decent windows & loft insulation. I got a GSHP (Dimplex 14kw) put in last summer, with optimised hydronic system (ie bigger rads) House is always toasty (new baby born the day...

Using a PIR in the Bathroom - advice?

Hallo everyone, I've used these Danlers sensors to control extractor fans in bathrooms. Works very well, once I'd masked out some of the sensor to stop false triggers caused by someone walking past the open door. Not sure I'd want to have lights controlled by them; my wife spends ages in...

    Probe tips

Morning all, I've lost one of the removable probe tips on the leads with my Megger 1552. Megger will sell me a pack of 20 for £10 +vat, plus £7 carriage. That's £20 for a tip...anybody know a better way ? Without this, I won't be able to use it for my 2391. I know exactly where the...

    Obsolete electrical fittings

Morning Colin, I saw some for sale at an antiques/fleamarket place called Dagfields in Cheshire. Bit of a long drive from Worcestershire - how desparate are you ? http://www.dagfields.co.uk/ Further to other posters, I remember my father using one for shaving in the bathroom, and my...

    Joining flex to t&e

Ah, obviously I didn't look hard enough... 528.6.1 "suitable terminals shall be used or the conductor ends shall be suitably treated" Not sure what a "suitable terminal" for fine stranded wire is (one where the screw doesn't bear directly on the wire like on mcb's ?), but I'd argue that a...

    Joining flex to t&e

"what if the heater or mirror needs replacing ?" well, then the wall comes down...mirror will be glued to ply false wall (hides all the pipework) so its there for ever. Guess I could cut around it with a jigsaw if raked out the grout. This aspect was considered in the design, and the client...

    Joining flex to t&e

No need for a flex outlet - the heater flex comes out of the back of the mirror, so I'd need to bring it out of the wall to get back into the flex outlet... I'd thought about using a FCU or switch mounted on the wall high up to connect the cable & flex (heater is switched via light so doesn't...

    Joining flex to t&e

Morning everyone, Need to join a bit of flex from a mirror heater to t&e. The flex from the heater isn't long enough to draw to anywhere accessible, so I'm faced with making a joint which will be inaccessible (mirror glued to wall, tiled surround). Is it ok to use crimps with flex ? If...

Is there a Tool for measuring the CSA of wire

Morning everyone, Calcs get a bit involved when cables are stranded. if there are 7 strands, the cable assumes a hexagon layout. By measuring either the diameter of a single strand, the major diameter (across the points of the hex) or the minor diameter (across the flats) you can get the CSA...
