    Insulating shed (VCL)

Here’s a couple of pics when it was just done. All planted up posh like now. Now the house is as good as done, this leopard is changing his bodge-a-job spots. Hence the shed workshop question. Today Matthew, I have decided to be a master craftsman. Of what yet I’m not sure

    Insulating shed (VCL)

Good as gold. Making quite a bit of money off it. Opened it up as a crazy golf course.

    Insulating shed (VCL)

I’d love to use celotex but my budget will not allow. EPS is not as efficient but a quarter of the price. Thinking about it, how much warm, moist air could get through the EPS and condensate on the inside of the T&G. That is hardly airtight so can the evaporate.....

    Insulating shed (VCL)

I’m aware there is a garden section, but this in my humble opinion is kind of building related..... maybe I’m planning a second 12’x8’ shiplap shed and having both as a workshop. Plan on insulating with 50mm of EPS between the framing then fixing OSB on the inside. If I were to build the new...

How Much of an Impact Will Insulation Have?

It’s a woman thing. Always cold. The last few days when this previously nice weather disappeared, my house is 19 degrees. Came back to find the misses had put the thermostat on 24. Thinking of installing a fake thermostat for her to mess about with and put the real one in a secret location set...

50mm Rockwool in cavity wall not 100mm

By even my penny pinching standards this is daft.

New workshop tools - new or used?

Not a chance! I pride myself on quality workmanship. If it won’t go in as a screw, it’s going in as a nail.

New workshop tools - new or used?

Have you ever heard the phrase “a bad workman always blames his tools”? Well, all my tools are crap.

New workshop tools - new or used?

Pondering at the moment as I won’t have a workshop for several months - so I have time to deliberate, change my mind, change it back again to hopefully reach a sensible conclusion. As for buying stuff from Aldi, I won’t knock their gear on value for money or place in the market, but for what...

New workshop tools - new or used?

Hmmmm..... you’ve pretty much given me the advice I needed! I’m fully aware of the 3 phase offerings and would obviously avoid. Shop size will be a mere 17sqm. Wood work is a general term but is as good as I can give due to the range of stuff I’d be after making. I’m not specialising. Jack of...

New workshop tools - new or used?

Always fancied a proper workshop. It’s now coming closer to reality, hopefully in the coming months. I intend to mainly woodwork and have been eyeing up “big boy” toys to purchase. I’m sick of muddling through outside with crap tools, chop saws that don’t cut square let alone any where near a...

    How to refinish this wood?

Might have to bite the bullet and get sanding.

    How to refinish this wood?

This is my gas meter cupboard.... front and sides in not too bad condition. Don’t fancy messing with those bits. But the top is knackered. What do you suggest? Light sanding then coat with what?

Which plasticiser do you guys use?

The cementone plasticiser from screwfix is just over £4 for a 5l tub. Did my whole extension. Can’t help think it’s cheaper than fairy.

If you could start again with cordless...

Abort abort abort! Found my bloody drill in the under sink cupboard..... my misses had kindly tidied it away and was oblivious what a “drill” was whilst watching me tear the house and garage apart. Relieved and slightly disappointed at the same time..... Is there an appropriate time for...
