Makita charger blinking green and red

Had a similar problem with my erbauer charger recently then realised the contacts were looking a bit corroded - just cleaned them up with a bit of sand paper and hey presto!

what max thickness can a concrete shed base be?

Didn't use concrete for my last shed built from scratch just laid a suitable number of "pressure treated" timbers on the dirt and checked that they were more or less level with a one metre spirit level. Did the same recently for a small greenhouse. After all a shed does not need to pass building...

Laminate floor makes annoying clicking noises when walking

Ahem, "it's half the price" well I never. With respect that is possibly your answer, could it be that every time it "clicks" something is slowly wearing away due to movement. I have laminate in four rooms in my house and none of it "clicks".

    Grouting patio slabs.

Seeing as a bag of cement is only £7 in Wickes and it will keep for ever in a plastic bag ( I have some which is five years old and still good), why worry? You might want to do some repairs to that grout in a couple of years.

    Diamond tile drill bit

I used a "carbide" (not diamond) point bit made by Bosch at slow speed. Lasted quite a long time.

    Leak between window and fascia

How about sticking a bit of soft foam on the window cill where the drips fall, just saying.

Anyone know the correct blade for record block plane

Blimey someone still using hand planes, I gave up on those years ago. Electric planers make the job so much easier with tungsten blades, etc., which every retailer sells if you ever need one. No offence, but why not treat yourself, you won't regret it.

    Best boilers?

First find a local gas man with a good reputation as I managed to do a couple of years ago. They are invariably a far better bet than the likes of British Gas, they have to be because their reputation is important to their continuing in business. How? Ask the neighbours who have lived locally...

Is this breakdown cover too good to be true?

In 60 odd years of motoring I have never experienced any need for breakdown cover. However my cars have always been well looked after and checked over once a month by me (fluids, tyre pressure and tread, etc.) Many people do not pay enough attention to these matters and get into trouble. My...

    Flooring gap

Don't understand the need to fill small gap when the usual underlay and laminate will cover it.

    Sink waste, help needed please.

I don't use bleach at all and in my many efforts of clearing drain pipes, etc., over the years, I have always finished up using caustic soda which given time will dissolve all organic matter including you if you are not careful (use rubber gloves when handling it). You can get it on ebay and...

I thought WhatsApp was supposed to be secure

It is quite well known now that Whatsapp is not secure, gets regularly hacked and farcebook is seemingly not doing anything about it.

Half a dozen fence posts rotten and breaking at base - cheap alternative to replacing them?

I have always used repair spikes and generally they last around 25 years before falling over as DiyNut says. However if you use the galvanized types which are slightly more expensive, they don't rust and will be there for ever.

    Big gap around window

I do have to say that gaps like that are not "standard" on older properties because "older properties" did not have PVC windows as they had not yet been invented! I would also comment that "foam" is not a very robust material to use where it will be exposed to the elements as in this case.

    Big gap around window

Blimey, whoever fitted that window was an amateur, I can only suggest that you have another one fitted of the correct size or if needs must insert a piece of plastic board followed by a suitable sealant from a gun to stop any draughts.

Boiler pressure dropping so it cuts off once a day

Had similar problem meself a while back and eventually boiler man realised that pressure relief valve was faulty and replaced it, end of. Mine was about £25 but it didn't take long for my man to fit it so no massive bill.

How to screw into walls of new build

True and I have used them but they will not take a lot of weight such as a radiator which should be fixed to the timber studs.

How to screw into walls of new build

robinbanks is 100% right with his advice, I would only add that one can purchase a "multi-purpose detector" quite cheaply which will show you where studs, pipes and cavities are. I got mine from Lidl years ago and would not be without it, seems to be quite a few on offer on ebay.

    Wooden Floor Preparation for Tiling

Don't do it at all is my advice or you will soon regret it. It only really works well with solid floors.

Shed roof leaking - felt kinked up in a ridge

I very much doubt if it is possible to smooth that out without it cracking and causing a worse situation. I cannot understand how it got like that in the first place but I know that there are all kinds of DIY idiots out there. Nuff said, having receently had to sort a similar problem on my shed...
