Thanks, I think I've decided against the dry verge anyway as I don't like the look of the one nearby! So it looks like a rake out and re-point the verge and maybe the ridge plus at least bird mesh and maybe soffits/facias to upvc at least on the back (where the conservatory impedes access).

what rating is the fuse or mcb protecting that cable at the consumer unit?

If these are odd ends of copper, for the inch or so you would save by removing olives its not worth the effort.
