fcu or 20a dp switch for kitchen appliances

Are you talking about the Big Red Book? If so, this is only about 60 to 70 quid, which tbh, is not that expensive considering how often it is updated! I work in the IT trade and we are always buying books for the new technologies etc. For sparkys, 70 quid every few years is nothing!

fcu or 20a dp switch for kitchen appliances

Ok, now the discussion regarding the use of 20A DP switches on 32A circuits seems to have come to an end, can we get back to the OPs orginal question, as I also would like to have an answer: Is is better to use FCUs or DP switches? The only answer which came close was by BAS: But to be...

Fitted a Ring for Future Use

In the design for our re-wire I would like to install a Ring for a possible future conservitory and link to two end of the cable in a connector block in a box at the back of house. When/if it is built I can then just crimp the cables and pass them through the wall to the sockets etc. As...

    consumer unit

this sounds bizarre and I hope its not correct regarding the CU mounting! We have mounted our CU on marine ply which is about 15mm away from the wall. It has another bit directly above going up to the ceiling to cover the cables.

    ELECTRIC CABLES /WATER PIPE

I assume that is actually 10cm, not 10m?? If the pipes are only cold (eg mains feed in to the house), I assume this is OK and doesn't need any special protection.

    Alarms on own Circuit

Basically because they will be next to each other - saves running a different cable on a different circuit to the similar location. Can I ask why they shouldn't go on the same curcuit? Surely there needs to be some kind of protection against electrical faults at the CU? As I am installing a...

    Power / Energy Meter

I already have a plug-in unit which detects amps, Watts and Voltage. I have been looking at one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=220934&&source=14&doy=4m3 But I would like something more permanent with LCD display etc next to the meter and connected to the mains itself...

    Alarms on own Circuit

I have been seeing on these forum the requirement for fire alarm systems to be installed indeally on their own circuit, or on a frequently used lighting circuit, rather than on a ring main. I am also sure I saw someone stated that with the introduction of the 17th Ed this year, it will be a...

I would also suggest getting an external USB unit. At least then you could get a dual layer writer if you wish.

    Fujitsu Siemens Laptop - defunct

Mmm, without knowing the error message - or even part of it, I can't help much. If you have a local computer shop you could take it in there for a diagnosis, or as I said previously send it off to the repair company.
