I have been seeing on these forum the requirement for fire alarm systems to be installed indeally on their own circuit, or on a frequently used lighting circuit, rather than on a ring main. I am also sure I saw someone stated that with the introduction of the 17th Ed this year, it will be a requirement that it is on its own circuit.

I will purchasing a dedicated fire alarm system for the house along with a seperate burglar alarm. The control units for both will be housed next to each other. If the above is true, can I still use the one circuit for both (eg on two different FCUs).

Obviously I will be looking at the burgular alarm system control panel every day and I'm sure it will show an error if the mains power goes?

Put them on seperate circuits.

Smoke alarms (different to fire alarms) must be on a non RCD protected circuit.

I pesonally prefer a dedicated supply. Others prefer the lighting curcuit method.

For what possible reason would you want to supply these two things from the same circuit :?:

Basically because they will be next to each other - saves running a different cable on a different circuit to the similar location. Can I ask why they shouldn't go on the same curcuit?

Surely there needs to be some kind of protection against electrical faults at the CU?

As I am installing a fire alarm system I obviously will not be going down the lighting circuit route.

there are rules relating to fire alarm supplies that are not part of the wiring regs

I would ask a specialist fire company for the exact requirments
