As the returns are 600mm each with steel lintels across the door opening and window opening I assumed the 300mm pier between the door and window would suffice. I was going to think about putting a large steel pillar in the cavity of the 300mm pier but not sure that will suffice either now...

thanks a lot, the 618 is the one I was looking at following some of the messages further up this thread and using the boiler size calc. Its also a few hundred quid cheaper than the 637. Thanks

Thanks for the replies - I was recommended earth Ariston or Main as a cheaper alternative to Sadia by the first chap who I rad round to give me a quote. I also used the calculator for what boiler size I would need - mine comes out at 14.7KW which is a lot less than the 37 or 31KW recommended...

I am having a couple of other heating engineers to come and give me some advice and a quote on the best setup and then compare to this first one I have had. What tank do you recommend? cheers

No its 3 bed, as I said earlier the heating engineer said this was what he recommended. When I asked if 37KW was necessary he said a 31KW boiler would probably suffice and result in a saving of approx £100. I will use the calculator link, thanks.

Thanks agile / lightning. I suspect the gear exchanger is probably well blocked up then. Will probably advise dad to get a new heat exchanger then. Would it not be best practice them to fit a gauze on all boiler installations then as that would stop a lot of the cr@p getting into the system...

Thanks tony, a friend suggested having one of those magna clean? magnetic rods installed so that all the metal and stuff that blocks up the heat exchanger never makes it into the system. Do you recommend this kind of thing?

ok re-pressurised to 1.5bar, still no hot water. boiler is not losing pressure. Same symptoms as before - flame ignites (indicated by orange light) , temp on display rises to 70, hot water for 20 secs, flame goes out, temp on boiler drops to 48, repeat cycle.

thanks agile, the pressure seems to rise when the CH is turned on, and then falls back when off. Will try your suggestion, cheers.
