Shutting off water valve in toilet where no valve visible

Thanks. That's a good idea. I just checked that an I don't think they have done that in my case. It looks like they have isolation valves on both the cold and hot water feeds to the basin taps but neither seem to feed the toilet. See the photo. I have, however, located the mains supply and...

Shutting off water valve in toilet where no valve visible

Thanks @Harry Bloomfield, @Madrab ,and @Stuckinarut. There's nothing on the other side either. Is there space to fit an isolation valve when I'm doing the change over or is the space too tight?

Shutting off water valve in toilet where no valve visible

The water inlet valve in my toilet cistern developed an issue where it wouldn't stop and the water would keep running. I tried to adjust the screw on top and I seem to have broke it as the water doesn't run at all now. So I ordered a new one from Amazon that I'm now trying to replace it with...

Removing top of waterfall shower head to descale

OK thanks. I'll try and get a Stanley knife blade under the screw head tomorrow. Nightmare because I need to get it off otherwise the shower will slow to a drip.

Removing top of waterfall shower head to descale

OK thanks. But what does that mean? How do I get the top of the shower off? Are you saying I don't need to remove those screws and I just need to pull on the spine harder to try and lift it off?

Removing top of waterfall shower head to descale

Yes. They are the same type and size as the ones on the perimeter that I was easily able to remove. These ones turn but don't come out. I've tried all six and none of them are coming out where as the ten on the perimeter all came out.

Removing top of waterfall shower head to descale

Hi all, I need to clean/descale my waterfall shower head as the pressure has fallen dramatically in the past year. I've tried tiny shower head brushes and limescale gel but it didn't work so I think I need to either remove the top and pour something in or remove the whole head and soak it in...

Fitting a door to Hotpoint Integrated dishwasher

Ok. So I worked it out. In theory it shouldn't be that hard but in practice they've made it more difficult by either not put in written instructions, linking to written instructions on their website (with a choice of language), or providing a YouTube video. Why a manufacturer can't do any of...

Fitting a door to Hotpoint Integrated dishwasher

I just purchased a Hotpoint H8I HT59 LS UK integrated dishwasher and the instructions for fitting the door really aren't that clear. Firstly, it seems to provide two door options. I'm not clear what the first one is but mine is a solid mdf door with the usual vinyl type cover. So I'm assuming...

Efflorescence on spalling bricks during frost

@ree @JohnD @Ivor Windybottom Thanks for your responses. There is no obvious place that the water would be coming from apart from the failed pointing. There are no window sills above and as far as I'm aware there are no water pipes behind those bricks. So my guess would be the failing...

Efflorescence on spalling bricks during frost

Hi all, The front door area of my house has a few areas of spalling brick that also needs repointing. During frost white efflorescence appears on the brick due to what seems (from googling :)) to be some kind of moisture issue. See the photos of the three main areas effected. Question -...

Replacing 3 Channel Heating and Water system with Tado Wireless V3+ kit

Thanks for your responses, it's much appreciated. I actually created a thread on the Tado communities and someone has also been really helpful. See the below thread as I've posted a lot more photos, including the inside of the thermostat. I've posted my request to the Tado chat and it's told...

Replacing 3 Channel Heating and Water system with Tado Wireless V3+ kit

Further to the above, I posted the attached question to the screwfix website last week, prior to purchasing the V3+ wireless kit. I'm now trying to install the kit and when I search for the existing programmer model in the app it's telling me that the Timeguard TRT038 is not compatible. So Tado...

Replacing 3 Channel Heating and Water system with Tado Wireless V3+ kit

Thanks for your response on his. I actually got the Tado V3+ Wireless kit (plus an extra wired thermostat). In the instructions there are steps to decommission an existing wired thermostat and replace it with the wireless one. The attached instructions have a set of images that line up with what...

Replacing 3 Channel Heating and Water system with Tado Wireless V3+ kit

Hi, thanks for your detailed response. I get what you're saying but I'm pretty happy with the two heating zones. There's one for the 1st floor and one for the 2nd floor. I rarely need the 1st floor heating but regularly need the 2nd floor heating as that is where I work from. You could make...

Replacing 3 Channel Heating and Water system with Tado Wireless V3+ kit

Thanks for your response. The reason that I think that it's the thermostat unit is because the light on it was flickering on and off a lot when I was turning the dial the other day. Then the light just went off and hasn't come back on. You could still make a case for it being something else...

Replacing 3 Channel Heating and Water system with Tado Wireless V3+ kit

I'm creating a new thread as my previous one doesn't quite touch on what I'm potentially now needing to do. This is the old one (that has photos of my wired thermostat wiring): https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/how-to-thermostats-work.634918/#post-5856190 I have a Timeguard 3 Channel...

    How to thermostats work

I didn't get around to doing this but it then turned out that one of the thermostats seems to have malfunctioned and given up the ghost this week. What's annoying about that is that it's preventing the heating from coming on at all on the second floor where I work so I do now need a solution...

    How to thermostats work

Thanks @Agile and @RandomGrinch This sounds promising So does that mean that I could just get two wired Tado (or any other smart wired brand) thermostats to replace my existing wired thermostats and then keep set the Timeguard to be on for large parts of the day and use the Tados to control...
