Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

That would be fantastic! I'm in north Warrington, but I'd be happy to travel to get the experience. (By the way, I'm not a teenager - I'm 38!)

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

Cheers lightning. You're absolutely right, I must start taking photos. I did it for one bathroom that I gutted and re-fitted, plastered and tiled too, but I wasn't on the photos.

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

Found one quite close to home for £50. http://www.baxipottertontraining.co.uk/course.php?idx=1&centre=3 It does say I should have ACS, but I'll ring them on Monday. Cheers!

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

I haven't personally tried the council because a couple of others had been turned away before I got the chance. There are some small companies that do sub-contracting but they weren't willing to take anyone on. One lad got an interview because he knew someone there, but they wouldn't touch him...

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

Thanks gas4u, I'll look into it. I did that with Aqualisa showers and it was really useful.

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

corgiman, I bow to your superior experience and knowledge. I really do. But you're wrong about the amount of work out there and you're wrong about being employed in the industry. My wife's a property developer and we've dealt with lots of plumbers over the years. It's like trying to get...

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

No-one on my course has been able to find work with a qualified person, and we've been trying for about the last six months, despite the tutors admitting we've got no chance. Your suggestion is to keep looking, fine, maybe I'll get lucky, but how do I pay the bills in the meantime? You want me...

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

Thanks Paul Barker. I should be okay now. The kitchen is in an extension and the only pipes coming in come from the ceiling (roughly below the bathroom). I can check them better when I start the job, but I can't see anything in the bathroom because it's newly fitted and everything is...

Combi Question from a Level 2 Plumber...

I'm doing Level 3 in September, so I haven't done Combi boilers yet. Don't worry, I'm not planning to touch anything beyond my qualifications, but... I've been asked to route some pipes directly from a Combi boiler into a kitchen. They want the existing kitchen pipes blanked off and removed...

    Central Heating - going loopy?

Thanks chr15. I understand what you're saying. You seem, on the whole, to be charging above £150/day for the sort of work I'm concerned with here. Maybe with my job, if I was quick-ish and could do it in two days at £300+ I'd have to quote £450-£500 to cover contingency and materials...

    Central Heating - going loopy?

Five days is the maximum it will take me. I always go by Murphy's Law so I don't end up causing myself and others problems. What's the daily rate (for non-CORGI) in Carmarthenshire? It should be a closer comparison than Norwich.

    Central Heating - going loopy?

 Now I'm even more confused!

    Central Heating - going loopy?

I have thought that I wouldn't want to undercut the market too much. But I've got to remember that: 1) I can't, in good conscience, charge the same as someone experienced. 2) I need the work more than most as I'm just starting out, and I'm skint after taking a year out for college. 3) I...

    Central Heating - going loopy?

Thanks gas. The rates are lower in the North of England. CORGI fitters can charge what you're saying though. For example, one quoted me £1600 for a two-day job. I don't know how long this job will take, which, as you rightly say, is the problem. I'm the slow careful type if anything. I...

    Central Heating - going loopy?

All I know is that my tutor reckons he charges £120/day and fitting a bathroom usually costs about £400 (like for like). I don't know any plumbers personally, or else I'd ask them. I've estimated it'll take me no more than 5 days @ £100/day and added £200 for materials and conitigency.

    Central Heating - going loopy?

I know, sorry! I've not done this before, and I can't afford to pipe it all up for it not to work. (I've done a few jobs, but I only qualified last week.) What do you reckon? Is £700 about right?

    Central Heating - going loopy?

The flow and return go along the loft, all the way to the far side of the bungalow. At the far end they drop down into a bedroom. I'm proposing to tee-off part-way round and drop another two pipes down into the bathroom, solely for the bathroom radiator.

    Central Heating - going loopy?

Thanks Dan. I've done a simple version of that to get to £700. The parts should be £50-£100 and I reckon I could do it in five days at £100/day. Then there's the mark up and contingency to make the £550-£600 up to £700. Is it okay to have two loops on the central heating? I can't see...

    Central Heating - going loopy?

I'm a newly qualifited plumber who's been asked to quote for a job in a bungalow. He's having a new back door fitted where there wasn't one before and he's moving the kitchen to the back of the house into the same room. Unfortunately, that causes a problem with the flow and return pipes for...
