Combi boiler, hot water briefly becomes cold during a shower

I have a combi boiler on the opposite side of the house wrt the bathroom, so the water takes about 30-40 seconds to get to the shower. If I never turn off the water during the shower, then there isn’t any problem. But if I turn the shower off for a few seconds and then reopen it, then I get warm...

Unused cables in back box: what to do with them?

I didn't! To be honest, I've stuffed everything in 32A rated wago connectors and run single wires to the socket. Strictly speaking I have 3 spurs from a single point on the ring (altough one is only 10cm long) rather than 2 spurs from a socket on the ring.

Unused cables in back box: what to do with them?

This was indeed the case; I had forgotten that I had added a socket to the ring in the section I've disconnected. Here is the original layout The modified one And the solution I've found to revive the forgotten socket, which has now become a spur The problem is that the double socket on...

Why is soundproofing bad even with a cavity party wall

What you have done (and I also have done) by building a new stud wall is basically decoupling; the sound transmission is not reduced so much because of the insulation but by the fact that the structure is (mostly) separated from the party wall. But having a party wall is basically a very good...

Why is soundproofing bad even with a cavity party wall

I think what you want to say is that sound can propagate through matter but not in a vacuum Bricks are solid, water is normally found in liquid state and air is usually found in gas state. Yes, sound can propagate through all this stuff. Now, between the houses there is mostly air (the...

Why is soundproofing bad even with a cavity party wall

I have lived in my 1960s terraced house for three years now and based on what I can hear from nextdoor (steps on stairs, doors slamming, people’s voice when shouting) I have always assumed we had single brick party walls. In the loft you can clearly see a single brick wall pattern with no bricks...

Vented water systems, why do they exist?

No, I was referring to vented vs unvented I can see why some people would like to have a hot water tank rather than a combi boiler; I just couldn’t grasp the meaning of the vented part of it; some of the comments above have clarified and it looks like it’s heritage from old times If somebody if...

Vented water systems, why do they exist?

A gravity fed system cannot give you more pressure than the pressure required to take water there in the first place (apart from the times when mains pressure drops) So you probably mean flow rather than pressure, and higher flow can be achieved by bigger pipes, am I right?

Vented water systems, why do they exist?

I have been reading about vented water system (I don’t have one) and I cannot see why so many homes have them. Pressure is probably going to be about 0.1 bar, which sounds a bit low Why doing this when you can have hot water pushed by mains water pressure?

Do I need a second mist coat?

I have cleaned all the dust with a damp sponge and then applied a second mist coat at a lower ratio (1 part water and 3 part paint, so 25% instead of 40%) The dust after this second mist coat was minimal so I have applied the first top coat

Do I need a second mist coat?

How do dilution ratio work for paint? What does 40% mean in this case? 10 liters of paint + 4 liters of water? 6 liters of paint + 4 liters of water? I’ve assumed to be the second (40% of the total) but I just want to check

New roof just done (is this a bodged job?)

I’m the OP, those white lines on my tiles were gone after a few days, so don’t worry about that In the last couple of months some light moss has suddenly appered They told me they were antifungal tiles, but after all the lies they’ve thrown at me who knows?

There is no tv plate in the picture (the power comes from below and the top is just the antenna No, I didn't test it with a moister reader, I went by the colour 40% water was the manufacturer instruction for that paint, it was pretty thick before adding water; I didn't check the reviews, but I...
