    Ideal Mini Combi Boiler Squealing

Thanks for the reply. If it doesn't work is it a case of removing the heat exchanger and replacing it with a new one or can it be de-scaled? Thanks again

    Ideal Mini Combi Boiler Squealing

When i run the hot water i am getting a high pitched squealing noise from the boiler. It doesn't seem to be doing it on the central heating just the domestic hot water. The boiler is an Ideal Mini and has been installed for about 6 yrs. I would really appreciate any advice on what this...

    Sloping floors

Basically what i did was to use strips of hardboard to raise the floor. Then put a layer of 18mm plywood over the old floor. It has definatley made the floor more even. If you could take up your old floor then it would be best to do so then pack the top of the joists with strips of hardboard. I...

Exterior v Interior plywood for floors

No alterations to the house from when i bought it. As far as i know nothing major has been done such as you mention. Also from what i remember the joists are not moving at either end. I think i need to make sure that the extra wood is still firmly bolted to the joists and if not then make it...

Exterior v Interior plywood for floors

It does bother me that the extra weight of the strengthening wood that has been put in has added to the problem over the last 18 months. Having said that it seemed better when it had first been done. I can't take the full floor up as there is a interior wall that is also built on top of the...

Exterior v Interior plywood for floors

It is just a normal joist with floorboard arrangement. I had someone bolt some lengths of 8x2 along the length of the existing joists. I had this done 18 months ago and had a new ceiling done at the same time. It seemed to make the bounce problem better but i have recently noticed that it...

Exterior v Interior plywood for floors

I really want the stiffest stuff i can get. I have already strengthened the joists and i still have some bounce so the stiffer the better for the ply wood. Excuse my ignorance but i am guessing WBP is exterior grade?? Is this stiffer than interior stuff???? Thanks again for all the help.

Exterior v Interior plywood for floors

Going to use some 18mm plywood to stiffen up a floor in my house. In the past i have used bog standard 18mm interior ply but i wondered if exterior stuff was stiffer? If not what is the best (stiffest) type of 18mm ply i should be going for? Thanks

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

not had any walls removed. The property is the same layout as when it was built in the 60's However there is this wall that i mentioned earlier in this thread that is built on top of the floor boards but sort of sits between the joists the wall is breeze block then plaster. There is one other...

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

I am sure the ends of the joists dont need packing as the nearer the ends have no bounce at all. Am doing the noggins at the weekend so will see if it makes any difference. For the small amount of money the materials cost it is a cheap option to go for at first to see if it fixes the problem. If...

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

sorry for any confusion I guess the notches i mentioned would be more likely to cause the bounce accross the 4m span rather than 2.5m then?

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

The span is 4m. ie the joists run across 4m and this is where the bounce is.

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

I have had a quick look at some of the notches. I would say they where about 1-1.5 inches deep by about 3-4 inches long.

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

Is this for real??? :? Surely things like your tv aerial or satallite dish would be more prone to a lightning strike?

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

ok excellent. Thanks for the help. this is a job that i will be doing for sure now. I think the wall on top of the floor has maybe contributed to the slope that is also present in this rooms floor. It was on my survey when i got the property, it said that the slope was due to the timbers...

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

ok cool there is just one problem i see with using htis mehtod. At One side of the room the wall is an external wall. No problem there. However at the other side of the room is an internal solid wall which is built on top of the floor. There is a joist that runs parallel to this wall and...

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

I think i see what you are saying. Although that picutre looks more like a wall to me rather than a floor :) I do get the idea though. So i only need to do the noggins accross the centre of the room? Is nailing the best way to go or would it be best to screw them in? I take it i want...

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

sorry if i sound really stupid but could you explain this in a more simple way as i don't really understand what you have said. Sorry  Do the noggins go at 90 degrees to the joists, in between them? What dimensions of timber should i go for and how often do they need positioning...
