Just before you do the bearings, check with wife that she hasn't lost a bra wire. I had one stuck between the drums, just enough sticking through hole inside drum to get some pliers on it. But as said, probably your bearings......

Probably water hammer. Have you opened up your mains water supply lately ? if so, try turning it down. Failing that look at the float valve in the cistern when its happening, is it vibrating to the touch ? If so and the mains hasn't been opened up, change the float valve. Frattonstation, near...

I'm thinking of using joist hangers when building my deck but when you have bent them over the top of the joist, doesn't that make the top of the joist uneven for putting the deck boards on ? Probably right Chris, but they also do that if they are bottom mounted and the tank has a lot of limescale in it (hard water area) causing it to periodically overheat and trip. Only cure for that is remove the immersion and get the scale out. But there again, we haven't been told any of that.

A continuity test from the back of the switch to the wires in the rose will tell you which one is the switched live. And when you find it, mark it with red tape in the rose.
