    Localised power outage

"No fuses were not tripped and I tested the RCD with no affect" What do you mean you tested the RCD with no affect? Do you mean you tested the RCD but it had no effect on your electrics and so didn't work? Or it didn't trip when pressing the test button? Or what? How did you get the 2 rooms...

    Anyone want these...?

They look like ATEX rated fittings - are you sure they are as old as you think? The glands also look like they may be old style Hawke 501 ExD which points to EX too....

    Why so rough ar*e?

Another example of rough arsed electricians. Courtesy of GEM solar UK Not the greatest crime I know but doesn't hurt to do things properly and make amends if you mess something up.

    Integrated washing machine

Cutting the plug off does not invalidate the warranty and there is no legal basis on which a manufacturer can claim it does, other than if they prove that a fault with the machine was as a result of incorrect wiring when connecting the wiring to the connection unit/outlet.

    Additional power point installed correctly?

You need to get an electrician who can make a proper judgement as to what can be done to rectify the situation and keep the new double socket. preferably ASAP so that the potentially dangerous situation with the MCB can be made safe

    Additional power point installed correctly?

No it has not been done correctly and sounds to be unsafe. Sounds like he's up rated a 16a radial circuit MCB to a 32a MCB which would be for a ring final circuit to start off with....

Pendant rose drop cables not straight

You can help them along by manipulating the flex by hand to try and straighten them with the light turned off but he is correct - they will straighten on their own eventually. Takes a bit of time...give it a couple of months and gravity will do the work for you.

outdoor extension for a 12ft swimming pool filter from inside house...

One things for sure though, having a pool or spa is not a cheap thing it is a luxury. Chemicals are also a factor in cost as you tend to forget how expensive the cost of chemicals required to keep the same body of water in a useable and safe spec for a long period of time (as you would not want...

Do you have economy seven? Our spa has a fairly large electric inline heater which is 6kw. It heats up from 12:30am to 07:30am on economy seven for 5p per unit (30p an hour) so it costs us about £2.10 to heat it from mains water incoming temperature (about 18 degrees at the moment) to full 40...

Having a pool at home is for enjoyment and pleasure yes? We may be able to "survive" in colder water but why have something expensive just to "survive" when you can enjoy it at a slightly higher temperature? It's like having a hot tub but running it with cold water because we are "tough" and...

Outdoor sockets that can take 2 x 6mm SWA cores?

BS7671:2008 "The regulations apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations.." Did this electrician not think about this when designing the circuit and planning the installation? Very poor that you are now having to come to a DIY forum to ask for advice when it...

Agree with that B-A-S Best thing to do is to heat it up once and then keep it there. Makes it a little bit more bearable on the old energy bill.

Solar covers are a marketed in such a way that they make you believe they will heat the water up free of charge if its a hot sunny day. In reality you will find that a solar cover will increase the temperature of the top centimetre of the waters surface by 1 or 2 degrees over the course of a...

Best way to get under flooring without a saw.

Disgraceful. If that were in my house he'd be having more to worry about than getting paid.

    led downlights

Apart from the calculations being wrong (you don't calculate light required in watts) you will also need to fathom out where the light from the downlighting will be focussed. Beam angle and lumen output is what you need to be focussing on. Down lights were designed with the intention of...

    Incredible lightbulbs

Mine are used daily and in a home with a non energy conscious woman and kids too....they are just fine. They've done and continue to do their job well. I estimate these are about 8 years old and have been moved from one house to our current home. LED lamps are great for light colour and...

    Incredible lightbulbs

I use the Philips Genie 23 watt CFL and they are great. Bright very quickly and better light output than a 100W incandescent.
