Mandatory ID cards (Brit Card) to be announced tomorrow

It's f*ckin bullshit!! THIS is the start of the full-on crack-down of civil-liberties. Just you wait until the time comes when you decide that you don't want 'the jab' or, that you haven't paid your parking ticket/s etc. They'll be able to freeze your accounts and then, no food etc. Look at...

    Thoughts on bodywork repair needed?

Blinded by lights in the darkness, I took the turn into our driveway too tightly and gouged a scrape into the side of my van. Luckily, it has not gone all the way through but it's pretty deep and rather unsightly. Any thoughts on how it is likely to be repaired? I haven't been to a body-shop as...

Is there any ceiling light that can act just as a cover?

I was always taught it as being 2.3m ceiling height. However having just googled it, it seems that there is no regs regarding this in the uk currently.

    Decorating a furnished house

The only way to get a true figure is to get local quotes from local trades. Many things effect cost not least, the availability / willingness of contractors to do the work. Speak to your neighbours and friends in the area as to who they have used and are happy with. You can try asking your local...

Is there any ceiling light that can act just as a cover?

Probably something like this is what you want. However, by the tone of your questioning I believe that you will need to have a qualified electrician install it / them. You can then add bulbs and / or shades to your heart's content...

    Bloom on outside of windows

Update: the Mrs wasn't too keen on the idea of using Jif as being too abrasive. In the end we've used just normal T-cut and it's come up a treat. Didn't even need much scrubbing, more of a wipe-over tbh and then buff off. Brilliant! Thanks again everyone for your suggestions.

    Loose kitchen door hinge

Hadn't thought of that. In hindsight I would've probably gone for this. I've now used the plate/s and it does the job. Pretty ugly mind but, does the job. ;)

Loosing reception on a DAB clock radio

We've never been able to get any DAB or terrestrial channels on our radio. I've finally succumb to the Alexa thing instead and listen via wifi.

    Loose kitchen door hinge

Is there enough movement for adjustment allowing for the thickness of the plate? Yes, odd how issues seem to 'just happen' in rentals, more than in your own home.

Ah, that might do the job. Thanks

    Loose kitchen door hinge

Anyone know what I can use to secure / re-affix the fixing screws on a normal kitchen cabinet hinge? It's the part that attaches to the unit, rather than to the door. They've become loose, I suspect stripped. Thanks

    Selling a 10 plate fiesta

You can try FM marketplace or EBay but tbh, probably not worth a lot. Whatever you do, do not sell for less than a scrap dealer will give you. They'll come and pick it at your home as well. It's a sad day watching your pride and joy being winched away but at thd end of the day, it's only worth...

    Coping with pain

A curved-ball, try Bio-dynamic Craniosacral therapy. Google it. My wife, a therapist of c. 20yrs (now retired) treated a chap who wasn't able to walk at all, bed-bound. After 4yrs of weekly treatments he was able to walk the 100yds down the street to his son's school. After 8yrs he was able to...

    Bloom on outside of windows

I think it's more the streaks from the lead. I'll try the Jif at you suggest. Fanx.

    Discolouration on aluminium cills

I'm thinking itis likely this. It is worse on the side of the house more open to the sun. Rather than spraying, I'm thinking something like shoe polish etc, unless anyone comes up with the correct thing.

    Cleaning conservatory plastic sheet roof

The roof of our conservatory has gotten pretty bad this year. It seems worse this year more than others and, more so on the south (sun-facing) side. In the past and also this time, I have cleaned it with a soft broom and bleachy water but this time it doesn't seem to have touched it. I have a...

    Bloom on outside of windows

Any ideas what product to be used to remove the bloom on the outside of out DG windows? They've been in about 13yrs but thenloom has been present for about the last 8 at least. They are leaded. I'm thinking it may be some sort of leaching from the lead.

    Damp on hidden fireplace

Alternatively, remove the plasterboard front and see what's behind. You may find that the existing Victorian fireplaces are still there and you could make them a feature or,even if already removed, you could face the opening's sides with board (I've just used plywood in the past) and then paint...
