    Solar Panels

Over long term yes, profits would be greater with a newer CCGT with much higher efficiency BUT the coal sites are still very profitable. It makes more sense to continue running profitable coal sites while newer CCGT sites are built. There would still be an ongoing income from coal until the CCGT...

    Solar Panels

If the power station is making a profit then why would the generating company want to shut it down? EDF seem to be happy to keep coal running for as long as possible. West Burton have just spent out to replace a generator transformer that 'turned up it's toes' (not a recognised phrase for a fail...

    Solar Panels

As far as I am aware the main reason solar isn't listed is because it's usually fed direct into DNOs and not fed into the Grid. The Gridwatch site shows info on NationalGrid and not the individual DNOs

    Solar Panels

The sheep are very useful. If they didn't graze, the shrubbery would have to be manually cut to stop it interfering with the panels. Having said that the sites I worked on probably spend more time down due to the poor quality of the inverters. I won't say what make they are but it's a well known...

    Solar Panels

Sheep were in England. Also worked at wind farms with cows wandering around. That was 'oop norf'.

Not sure about that as I have personal experience of being surrounded by sheep on more than one occasion while working at large solar farms.

    Imperial to metric radiator swap

Well, I got the 900x500 rad changed today. As expected things didn't go exactly to plan but not too bad. One valve was passing slightly but nothing a rag shoved in the hole couldn't cure. Whoever fitted it did a bodge job though. One valve was metric, one imperial so had to use one of the old...

    Imperial to metric radiator swap

I was looking in Screwfix for rads and they don't list 1500. I'll have a look elsewhere for 1500. If I use a 1500 what extension would you recommend? The same one I listed?

    Imperial to metric radiator swap

I want to swap some old rads for nice new ones. The old are from back in the '70s when the house was built so are all imperial. One is simple enough, it's 3' so I should be able to get a 900mm in (15mm difference which I'm sure I can get away with with the play in the pipes). The awkward one is...

Paste the paper/wall. What's the difference??

I think you are confusing the plague with sheep molesting. Both have the same outcome if the wife finds out :D

Paste the paper/wall. What's the difference??

Oh bugger! Looks like this may be my last post then ;-) BTW, did they have the plague in Pontypridd in the 70s when the house was built?

Paste the paper/wall. What's the difference??

Thanks for the replies. It looks like it'll be a few days before the paper goes up. I just took what was on the wall off ('crucifix' made up of 1' square mirror tiles and around that very thick wallpaper with about a dozen layers of paint) and found the wall underneath is a really dark red. I...

Paste the paper/wall. What's the difference??

I'm just about to re-paper one wall (yes, just the one luckily!). We've been to look at paper an I see some say paste the paper, others paste the wall. What's the difference between the two papers and can you paste the wall if the paper says paste the paper or the other way around, paste paper...

Wooooooo..........BBS's. The good old days. I used to run a BBS. Started with RemoteAccess then swapped over to EleBBS. Had a second phone line installed so that I could run 24 hours and still be able to use the phone. Happy days :D

    Internet.

It might depend on your area but I've got Sky fibre and it's great. Four, sometimes 5 of us online at the same time and I've got no complaints about the speed. I was on Sky broadband before fibre and again, no complaints. That did slow with all of us online but that was down to it being...

    Problem with central heating pump

I had the same problem some time ago. There's a start up capacitor inside the connector block housing. It had 'dried out' with the heat. A replacement soon had the pump up and running again.
