    Lost in translation????

This is a warning sign on the outside of an inverter cubicle on a solar farm I worked at. It seems every cubicle by this company (a very well known multi national, not sure if I should name them as they employ me!) in the UK has the same sign. Do you think something was lost in translation??

Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

That is very true. I work on HV/EHV transformers mainly at power stations and sub stations and the differences in rules is staggering. Even simple things like inductions at sites varies from 1/2 hour to 6 hours. Best one so far was, ' Wear overalls, boot and hard hat. See that big grey box? If...

I've just had a phone call from an asian guy telling me that I had a virus on my computer. According to him whenever anyone connects to the internet they connect to a central internet server called the WWW server. My PC then tells this central internet server that I have a virus and that server...

    Dafi water heaters. Any good?

I'm looking for a water heater for the kitchen sink only in a small holiday chalet. Dafi do a 7.5kw for £50 but are they any good or should I go for something like an Ariston 10l tank unit? Anyone got any experience of Dafi water heaters?

Not sure. I'm at home at the moment. I'm hoping (work permitting) to get back down next week to finish off some other jobs. I'll check the MCB then.

1.5 or 2.5 for water heater

I'm currently doing some work on our holiday chalet near Minehead and noticed that the Triton water heater is connected using 1.5mm T&E cable. It's a 3Kw unit which, if my maths is correct (assuming 230v) will draw 13A. I've checked the Triton web site and they say a minimum of 1.5. The cable...

    What insulation should I use?

I suppose another possibility is to use the sheet foam and fill any small gaps by squeezing in as much of the quilt stuff as possible? I suppose the problem there would be the same. Wouldn't the quilt soak up and hold any moisture too?

    What insulation should I use?

What about using the foam and filling any gaps between the timbers and the sheet foam with the aerosol expanding foam stuff? Can you see any problems with that?

    What insulation should I use?

Hi all I'm starting to do some work on a holiday chalet I inherited near Minehead. The chalet is wood built with approx 3" gap between the outer and inner walls. Currently the gap is filled with a thin (1-2") layer of what looks like roof insulation. I'm looking for suggestions to replace...
