    Underfloor heating prep question

Thanks for your reply. I certainly need to try and keep my floor level height as low as poss. It’s an old upper flat with floorboards and joists. I definitely need ply which I’ve got cut today. I’ve found some ideal 6mm thick tile board come insulation today so I’ll lay this on my ply. Then of...

    Underfloor heating prep question

Hi, I was planning to lay 12mm ply over old boards and then an insulation layer (prior to underfloor heat element) and then a latex screed before tiling. My question is mainly what to use for insulation, but I am wondering if my plans are overkill. Just a small/med size bathroom. Anyone know...

Door and window facings lower than tiled surface

im yet to decide on tiling the whole bathroom (won’t be such an issue if part tiled) but (see pic) old tiles were ok where they met door facings, new larger tiles will end up proud of the facings. The window is old sash and case with similar facing to door surrounding it. Unless I free and...

New boiler coming flush 8mm or renew

Hmm it’s tricky. I’ll need to decide which way to go. Certainly the system is working fine at the moment. Do others agree a power flush isn’t a great idea incase crud in manifolds were to clog pipes? Sounds possible but this was a bit disappointing to hear as I’d hoped a good flush though...

New boiler coming flush 8mm or renew

Thanks for replies. Seems opinion maybe will be a bit split on it. Going to get two or three estimates. Would ideally like floors sanded so might see if any fitters would work in tandem with a joiner to sort floors when putting boards back. This needs done anyway.

New boiler coming flush 8mm or renew

Cheers. Aye contrary to my plans I’m starting to wonder if that’s best. Just took one rad off and quite black sludgy at bottom of it. But that’s maybe not overly surprising or concerning. And a good reason to change them.

New boiler coming flush 8mm or renew

Hi folks, Bit advice please. Got 8mm from manifold/s ran in my 3 bed circa 1900 flat, 8 radiators. Been in 18 years. I was thinking of changing rads and pipework but don’t want to make worse mess of already poor floorboards and of course it’s much more costly and involved. Maybe a powerflush...

    Tapeing plasterboard question

Thanks, Yes, it'd be good if I could get help putting it up to use bigger sheets. So, ok just have to tape/fill the flat joins the best I can. I probably should've been clearer in my first post about not skimming the whole ceiling, I did mention using joint compound though (like easi-fill)

    Prefer to skim the joints

    Tapeing plasterboard question

Sorry, I don't know what you mean when you say to use the other side of the board? I 'll probably use 1800x900 12.5 so am sure to have some non tapered edges butting up against each other.

    Tapeing plasterboard question

I'll be putting the plasterboard up without help so best not too big but I want to use 12.5mm rather than handiboard which is 9/9.5. Just a bathroom ceiling about 8' by 9'. I shouldn't feel confused about this (and feel a bit stupid asking) but need some clarification! I'm right only the long...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Thanks. Ordered one just now. Could I fit it myself? I know I can access the thermistor ok by removing the R/H side panel. I don't know what the engineer did as far as isolating water though (when he changed my heat exchanger) but I don't think he touched the ancient valves beneath the boiler...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Ian, do you think this happening does just sound like the sensor is going bad? I just sat and watched the boiler while filling a bath and it momentarily cut just the once for a few seconds (red light displaying 07) while getting up to HW temperature (seems to be set 45c). Seemed similar last...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Well good news in that I had the main heat exchanger replaced and all is well. Almost.. (incidentally was advised if keeping the boiler I change the insulation pads next year but I do only want this boiler to see me through the winter) I've become aware tonight that when CH running code 07...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Hi, I wasn't meaning moving the existing boiler. I was meaning not wanting to replace it with a new one now only to have to move the new one next year. I'm seriously considering a complete switch around of kitchen/livingroom and bedroom locations. Building warrant for that and moving...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Checking the price of a heat exchanger is not the same as saying that’s happening. To be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit H2O dripping to feel totally confident about what’s been going on. I think a few replies are a bit unfair in light of me explaining why I’d like to try and make do with...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Thanks. Hopefully some progress at least. This boiler is miles away from a drain. I actually installed a grundfos pump a few months ago in anticipation of fitting a new boiler but it's hose is running a mile across my loft and feels less than ideal. Heating is all 8mm pipework too so I was...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

I accessed the heat exchanger just now to try and inspect it. Here's a couple of pictures. One is showing some rusting at the right hand side front of the heat exchanger (the rust of course being mainly on the mild steel heat shielding) and the other is worse looking rust/debris etc which...

isolating CH side from combi to identify pressure loss

Thanks Ian, I must say the one thing I'm wondering about is the heat exchanger but I've been told if they go they'll leak really badly. Is there likely to be drips of water at any time if it was split, or would all leaking water evaporate, even when cold? There's no dripping to be seen. I've had...
