Petrol Lawn mower Not used for a couple of years...

By going through the steps I outlined, starting her up and letting her run for 5 mins. If you want to be extra careful you could change the oil first, then run her up to hot and then change it again (only very small qty of oil involved so not a great expense. Any multigrade car engine oil...

    Formica bench "sticky"

Sorry this turned out to be a red herring Finally got the courage of my convictions and took wire wool and domestic cleaner to it and gave it a severe talking-to! It came up fine and clean and back to normal. It was "crud" built up over the years in the "dimpled" parts of the Formica...

    Formica bench "sticky"

Wierd one this. Have a kitchen that is 5 years old. In just one area the formica bench has gone "sticky" and lost its hard, sealed feel. Was convinced that it must be something stuck on the formica but having cleaned it with all sorts of household cleaners and then washed it with paint...

    Cavty insulation works!

Just a little feedback for people who have doubts. We had our 4-bed house treated last year wih mineral wall insulation in the cavities (blockwork walls with external rendering Cornish build). The results last Winter were very impressive. House much warmer with significant savings in fuel. :D

    Skyhooks?

The contamination is 900 litres of fuel-oil that leaked from the Balmoral tank over a few months until the fault was identified. The Utility Room wooden floor (where the boiler is) and part of the concrete garage floor now have to be removed in order the thick heavy contaminated clay can be...

    Skyhooks?

Got to find a way to temporarily brace up my boiler while the suspended (wood) floor is stripped and contaminated soil is excavated from under the house. Has anybody done this before and can offer any bright ideas please? Ricky

    Noisy soil vent pipe

Living high up in Cornwall it has been known for the wind to "blow a bit" from time to time! The soil vent pipe exits on the roof close to our bedroom and sometimes howls like a banshee at night Is there any way you can fit some sort of baffle or filter to these vents please? Any proprietary...

    Terminal noises from fridge compressor?

What goes on inside a fridge compressor please? Took my fitted 5 year old Neff one out today as the "clunk clunk" noise as it switches off is driving me mad! When it started a year ago I thought the compressor was on the way out, bit a year late it still plods on. Running it in the open it...

    Heating oil damage?

Hm............................probably censored by the Trade Press lawyers for risk of being sued?

    Heating oil damage?

Thanks for that but .............didn't work. Balmoral offered a percentage based on the life of the tank from the time it left their Factory (not when it was put to use despite my proving that date conclusively). That worked out to about £80 and it would cost me £80 to get their "approved"...

    Heating oil damage?

Last year had a Balmoral storage tank leak (just 5 years old). Replaced the tank, needless to say not with another Balmoral one. However some heating oil got under the foundations. Now notice that the Utility room floor (which is insulated with foam between the concrete base and wooden...
