Waterproofing a building below ground level?

Ohhh im with you. Yeah it will be in the way lol. Im going to plaster inside. To bring the outer course level with the inner i was going to use 100mm battens and build a stud wall, effectively on top of the inner course. Screw the plasterboard to the battens and use adhesive at the bottom of the...

    What foundations for out building?

The mat/raft/slab foundation is likely what i will go with. How do i determine the thickness? All i can seem to find is advice like "extensions require 200mm, sheds require 100mm", nothing specific on load requirements. My build isnt an extension, but it isnt a shed either, what thickness...

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

What do you mean by step? The wall will be full height on the outer skin, and only 2 blocks high on the inner skin. I was going to build both skins straight onto the flat top of the foundation exactly as per my picture. Is this correct or the wrong thing to do?

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

wow thanks for taking the time to put so much effort into your reply. Your diagram was my exact initial concept, however we want the patio doors to open flush with the wall on the outside, so the second skin will have to be on the inside. The building will be on a raft/slab/mat foundation. Do...

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

What about a partial second skin? Say about a block above ground level, on the i side, with the dpm between the blocks? Ive got to sell this build to the Mrs who will be covering half the cost, so really trying to avoid the cost of a second skin.

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

This will be a golf simulator room. Not planning on having any insulation or heating, it gets hot enough when youre continually swinging a club lol. Does the tanking slurry option with DPM in the foundation sound feasible?

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

Floor level to be 30cm lower than the ground level outside. I wont be able to have any drainage. There will he a slight step up into the door and then a step down to the floor on the inside.

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

Im thinking a single skin block wall laid on top of a raft foundation. Around 1.5 blocks high to be below ground level. DPM to be within the foundation. Initially I was hoping to run it up the wall however being single skin i couldn't think of a way to acheive this, so i thought about tanking...

    What foundations for out building?

Is there an actual formula to calculate the required foundation? For example: X dead load + Y soil type + Z distance from a tree = foundation How do structural engineers calculate it? Ive seen BC poke the floor and say "thatll do", but there must be more to it than just guess work.

Waterproofing a building below ground level?

Hi guys. So I want to build a large shed at the bottom of the garden (some of you may have seen my other post). Im going to build it out of block. My only issue with it is, I need 2.5m clearance between the floor and the roof (enough room to swing a golf club basically). My neighbours garages...

    Building a Large Shed

Good point, i completely overlooked the non combustible material rule, this will be 60cm from the boundary in 3 directions. Looks like building it out of block is my only option. Good idea about the JJ I beams. I will take a look. Thank you

Hi Guys, Background: Im thinking about building a large shed in my back garden, outside dimensions to be 5.4m x 5.4m, with a pent roof, the highest point being 2.5m tall. I will build the shed from scratch, im thinking about using a timber frame and shiplap. Ive built sheds in the past, and...

    Straightening warped/twisted wood?

Just to follow up on this thread for others that were in my situation and need help... So the doors were made last year, i clamped the warped/twisted wood flat to my workbench, assembled and glued the pieces together. I then routed out a 10mm slot along the top and bottom edges of the doors and...

What id the best way to cut wood dead square in situ?

i have a wooden frame with x4 lengths of 63x38mm sticking out vertically upright, where i need to trim the ends back by 60mm. The crux of the situation is I need to attach a piece of wood to the ends i am cutting to join all 4 uprights together, so all the cuts i make need to be square. As...
