    2.3m Deep Foundations alternatives

Results back today. Showing a PI of 16% at the bottom of the trench which is a real (good) shock. Test results sent to BC so hoping they got out of bed the right side today....

    Build over agreement (Class 1)

I understand, so something more like this? And would gravel give the appropriate movement?

    Build over agreement (Class 1)

I've heard of people wrapping in bubble wrap. Sound acceptable or something more substantial?

    Build over agreement (Class 1)

Thanks woody. The pipe is existing so they can just pour the foundations around it? No lintel support required?

    Build over agreement (Class 1)

Thank you woody. I have searched and searched and found no examples of what is required. Any clues?

    Build over agreement (Class 1)

I have a 100mm drain pipe which will go through my foundations at a depth of 1m. The manhole is outside the footings of the extension so it only the protection of this clay drain I need to be concerned about. The foundations are very deep, up to 2.4 meters. I am thinking of something like...

    Building Regulations Parts B - P Responsibility

Thanks extremely helpful. It seems that I spoke to a junior at the architects practice who misunderstood the requests and the architect is now on the case with these. So far they had only completed planning drawings so there is much for them still to do.

I'm building a single storey extension to my house. I have an architect a separate structural engineer and a builder. My Building control officer has asked for: "Full construction specification for the extension showing compliance with Part B-P is required including the foul and surface water...

@RonnyRaygun you have already saved me £1000s with your suggestions. The neighbours have agreed to me cutting down the eucalyptus so building control are asking for 2m throughout. I now have a plasticity test booked to see if I can shave off even more from the depth. Thank you so much

    2.3m Deep Foundations alternatives

Yes I know it's a bargain but it's painfully slow and definitely painful for the labourers. It's also costing me money so I really need to know how to reduce all these problems bargain or not.

    2.3m Deep Foundations alternatives

If you check NHBC 4.2 it does state that if the tree is less than 50% of its mature height when removed then the current height can be taken when determining foundation depths. This is because the roots will not have reached as deep as a more mature tree. Brilliant. Thanks a million. Checked...

    2.3m Deep Foundations alternatives

Thanks so much for the response. I am a complete novice so how would I get the soil tested? The tree causing the most problems is not mature and my neighbour who owns it also wants it chopped down but the surveyor says this will not affect the depth as it takes years to settle. Pad and beams...

Sorry just to add, they are currently digging out by hand as the site has complicated tight access.

    2.3m Deep Foundations alternatives

I have just had a inspection from building control who are asking for very deep foundations for a single storey extension. To quote the report: "Lombardy Poplar tree to rear paced out at circa 18m from proposed rear elevation. Eucalyptus at circa 10m away from the proposed flank elevation at...

    Garage Conversion / Rear Extension

Week 1 almost over. 3 skips to date and some hard digging by hand. Lovely straight trenches. Should I worry about the 2 inches of water in the bottom of them?
