I'm trying to replace washers in an old basin c/w tap but can't budge the headgear using an adjustable spanner. It seems to be completeley seized up to the tab base. WD 40 hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Thanks LeadFarmer ... I had intended to go ahead with bitumen adhesive but the weather a couple of days ago was so cold that it was almost solid in the tin and totally unspreadable. Abandoned the idea and compensated with a good quality felt and loads of nails. Thanks all for your contributions.

I've been asked to build some shelves in 21" (533mm) contiboard but am having trouble sourcing this width ... Homebase B&Q, Wickes etc seem only to do 18" or 24". I don't have the facility to rip sheets and the guy can't afford an expensive solution. Is 21" contiboard still available or can...

A customer of mine has said that she wants to convert an upstairs bedroom into a kitchen (!) with sink, microwave oven and electric twin hob to be placed on a worktop. Does she need planning permission and what sort of building regs would apply?

I'd like to avoid using adhesive if possible (who wouldn't) to refelt my 8 x 5 gable roof shed. Is the extra hassle really worth it? (especially as I will be doing it by myself)
