    Advice on drain location

In hindsight I should probably have included that little nugget of info in my original post.

    Advice on drain location

Ah I see what you mean. There isn't an existing drain apart from by the guttering and that runs off towards the main drains at the front of the house. Thanks very much for your advice on this.

    Advice on drain location

So is this what you mean? Run the drain so it will be in line with the end of the step, put a trap where the guttering comes down to, and then connect from the aco to the trap?

    Advice on drain location

Almost ready to start laying my patio but would like to get some advice on the best location to run an aco style drain. I had though about running it against the brickwork but as we’re putting a step in by the door I’m wondering it if should come away from the wall and run in front of the step...

    40mm gap to fill

I was wondering about a bit of timber up top as there will be no weight on it, and then just expanding gapfill the remaining gap if there is any.

    40mm gap to fill

I was test fitting the personnel door in my workshop extension today and there is a 40mm gap that needs to be filled between the top of the frame and the lintel. I’m thinking I could either raise the door on something or fill the gap at the top. Do lintels come in 40mm? What else could I use to...

    Help calculating mortar requirements

I’m having a bit of a mental block while trying to get back into my patio project. I need to get materials sorted for the mortar base for the flags. I’m working on a 42m2 area (over estimate for an odd shape) and looking at a 40mm base @ 5:1 ratio of sharp sand:cement. Could someone just talk...

    Emptying a trench

With the huge amount of rain we’ve had over the last couple of days there’s a few inches of water in the bottom of my trench. I’ve got the bricky round tomorrow morning to continue the work but wonder how I can clear the trench for him. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Alternative to concrete slab for small workshop

Thanks for that, I've already got a load of the foam tiles which I'd planned on laying on whatever floor choice is put in there. I'll take a look around for these big slabs.

Alternative to concrete slab for small workshop

If I'm mixing concrete I may as well just pour the slab. Interesting idea though. Can imagine the costs would be quite high compared to just a basic slab.

Alternative to concrete slab for small workshop

Its a single skin brick extension to the existing garage. Its basically just somewhere for me to fix stuff on a work bench. No heavy machinary ir anything.

Alternative to concrete slab for small workshop

I’ve been wondering what alternatives there could be to pouring a concrete slab for a small 2.5x3m workshop I’m building on the back of my garage. Part of the work we’re doing is extending the patio so I wondered about using the workshop as a practice area for laying paving. Apart from the...

Trench foundation pour tomorrow - tamping help

Thanks for the help all, we got the concrete in on Friday afternoon, in the dry. Not too much mess but did have a couple issue with trench crossings. All in and level though so I'm happy that this is finally moving forward.

Drainage for steps from patio to garden?

We've to'd and fro'd on ideas of how to transition from our patio up to our garden, which is about about 12 inches from slab to grass. We've come across this idea ( http://www.valleygardenlandscapes.com.au/projects/indoor-outdoor/ ) and really like the look of it, but I wonder what, if any...
