    Karcher HDS 601C Pressure washer.

Yes, thanks John. I noticed when he demonstrated it that it was smoking on high temperature with a smell to match but not knowing anything about them I couldn't say much. The chap where we got it has an industrial unit and sells quite a few so I thought he would be an expert although his main...

    Karcher HDS 601C Pressure washer.

Hi John Now why did I think you would be the only one who would know about it.:sneaky: Thanks for the reply anyway. Yes it is under guarantee but he has to take it there and its some distance. The model number is listed as a steam cleaner and is according to the on line info. It feels as...

    Karcher HDS 601C Pressure washer.

My son has just bought one of the above second hand but guaranteed, it appears to have two problems. It works fine with hot water but the temperature control will not advance above 90C, just comes to a stop. And if you are trying to run it flat out the exhaust becomes very smokey. Sorry, I meant...

    Gasless Mig welding.

I haven't found anything that's good on car panels John, that could be my welding skills of course. I think the cored wire is about the same diameter as the gas wire, its a long time since I bought any but I don't recall having any problems. I think most welders come with a couple of...

    Gasless Mig welding.

I don't think the wire is coated John, I think its cored - like solder, works on mine OK, don't even think I changed the nozzle but my memory being what it is I can't be sure of anything.:cautious:o_O Peter

    Gasless Mig welding.

I went 'gas less' with my MIG some time ago, the main reason is that I used it mostly out of doors and the wind tends to blow the gas away which doesn't give a good weld. I don't use it very often, I use my very old stick welder for most jobs but the MIG is useful for smaller jobs. Peter

Smith & Alan Unelite engine oils

It depends a lot on what engine you are running, I run all non DPF Hdi engines and they are quite happy with anything rated 'CF', I used the same oil on my previous Citroen diesels and have had engines last nearly 300k. I think that regular oil changes are at least as important as the oil you...

Renault master 2500 diesel van Alternator

I would concur with John. Voltage should be about 14.4 volts if the alternator is charging. On some alternators you can just change the regulator assembly which is a lot cheaper. Find your alternator identification and look on ebay. Peter

Power steering, brakes or suspension issue???

If you get someone to turn the steering wheel while you watch the strut you may find the spring is not moving with it, or jumping, that should determine the problem. Peter

Copper grease to prevent rust - advice please!

Any sort of grease will prevent it rusting in the short term - as long as it stays on there, it depends how long you leave it. Peter

    Volkswagen radio fault

Yes Nige, I cut my teeth on them, a couple of friends of the same mind and I used to build amps to try and outperform each other. We also sold Leak, Quad and similar when I started work - all mono of course. Fire away and I will do my best to help as long as it doesn't involve any maths.:unsure...

    Volkswagen radio fault

I would check that it has both 12v supplies on it, one permanently live and one ignition switched, if it has the radio will be at fault, a second hand one from the scrappers would be the answer. I was an electronics engineer for 50 years but I wouldn't attempt to repair it.

    Flat battery

I notice that the battery has a three year guarantee so I should check the date you bought it. Also check the voltage across the battery with the engine running, should be about 14.4 volts, much less and you have an alternator problem. The output of modern alternators can be 100 amps or more so...
