They have the hozelock type and I believe they are the non return type where if the tap is opened and hose connected no water comes out unless you use your finger to push the non return plastic stuff or connected to a male connector as seen one jet washer. Is that what you mean? I can break...

Is there a way to tell without going there when its raining to inspect ? When you look at the brickwork outside, it looks damp/wet but its hard to say without checking on a rainy day.

@Gasguru, No insulation anywhere...that hot outlet from the cylinder is pulling heat out 24/7 wasting energy. Which pipe is this and any idea why it would be installed in the first place, is it actually serving any purpose ?
