Balancing hot and cold between taps is a real faff - and as thermostatic bar mixers are so cheap, I would suggest investing in one. I don't think you'll regret it.

If the tap has service valves, then removing the cartridge to get main dimensions - no of splines, spigot diameter etc - isn't too hard. You will find Screwfix do a range that seem to fit a lot of taps, for little money. Otherwise, as you suggest, just change the tap.
