Vaillant 831 plus plate heat exchanger replacement - how to?

Presumably you are doing this because of scale issues? Be simpler and cheaper to hire a Kamco unit and run some descaler through. That way, you can replace the room sealed cover before anyone on here notices you have removed it and work from outside the case.

    HRV

An expensive solution, and if you don't have room for a minimal sized Positive Pressure fan, then how can you accommodate 2 (significantly larger) heat recovery units?

is 12 years too old? should we replace combi boiler?

Could be a good time to renew the boiler if it needs repositioning. Be horrible to disturb your renovations at a later date. However, if not, and you say the boiler is working well, leave well alone.

    Possible new boiler needed

I'd put Vaillant above WB - and wouldn't write off the Potties either. But if you want the best, Intergas is the boiler to go for. But, as Muggles says, in his usual sensible fashion, your existing boiler is repairable. Explore that option first, including a fixed price repair from Vaillant...

Unvented Cylinder with Combi Boiler help

Where the immersion is installed to the cylinder, follow its flex back. It may be simply wired direct to a plug socket - in which case all you have to do is switch the socket off - or it may lead to a timer. If in doubt, take a pic and post back here for more guided advice.

    logic baffling out

C'mon guys, respect Oilski's reasons and help him out. Agas was spot on with his hint - surely you can help a fellow rgi with some similar cryptic hints that would mean nothing to a diy-er, but would guide him to a solution?

Gas not heating water for shower???

    Fix or replace leaking shower?

Aqualisa charge a lot but give a whole lot more. Total quality. Cartridges can be sourced via E-Bay from authorised dealers at lower than over the counter prices, but make sure you get the correct cartridge - they are different for combis etc. Aqualisa recommend you turn the shower on and then...

Glowworm PCB Failure - Resistor Banding

Why not try Geoff at CET ltd. His company reconditions pcbs on an exchange basis. A short chat with him would ascertain which board you need and at a reasonable price.

    HRV

You could try one of those positive air ventilation systems - its a bit like a reverse extract fan that you fit in the loft which constantly pushes air into the house. No personal experience, but users seem to speak well of them.
