Using floor laminate on conservatory walls

When laying laminate floor a gap has to be left round the room to allow the floor to expand and contract as temperatures and humidity levels change. I'd be wondering what will happen to it from being nailed to battens and restraining movement, given the big temperature differences it would...

Bi-directional DC ELV Control Circuit via 3-core cable

Depending on cable type the capacitance could be higher than 100pF per meter. Maybe it wasn't 240V cable and the insulation thinner so conductors would be much closer together increasing the capacitance. From a quick google 100pF is ball park for twin and earth where conductors are quite far...

Cheap column rads from Ebay / Amazon?

I've got 3 cheap radiators off ebay. One a vertical mock cast iron, a flat panel vertical one, and a fancy shapped towel radiator. Only issue was naff vent assembly on towel one - tends to unscrew whole vent fitting when opening the bleed screw. Aside from that they are all fine.

    Radiators and wet UFH combination

I put an overlay wet underfloor heating system in my kitchen as a seperate zone to the rest of the house. After doing some heat loss calculations given the area of floor not under cabinets I could run the pipes I found on a really cold day it would be a bit short of power to keep the room warm...

    Support for corner double oven

My appliance cabinets built with a sturdy shelf for the oven to sit on as well. Be a very poorly designed unit if they hadn't taken into account weight of the ovens they are made to take.

    Core drill bit

Once you have an adequate groove cut you remove the pilot bit as the groove will then guide the core. It was the taking hours that prompted me to get a proper drill with a bit more power, and higher rpm available for small diameter cores. Did a 162mm hole using grey mexco trough two layers of...

    Core drill bit

I've got a grey mexco 162mm and a couple of smaller blue spiralled mexco ones which I got to replace some other basic ones. I recon the blue ones do cut faster than the standard designed ones. It still takes a while to drill a hole mind, but since you've an appropriate drill it shouldn't be too bad.

Corded leaf vacuums - worth it?

Ive got a very basic one that doesn't mulch. It blows air out the tip up the intake tube drawing leaves in with it - the leaves dont go through any kind of blade/impeler. I use it to get leaves and hedge cuttings off a gravel drive. The bag does fill quite quickly and can be quite heavy when...

    Best acoustic ceiling insulation?

I did my kitchen ceiling with 100mm rockwool RW5 slab (more dense than the accoustic slab I believe), then double boarded with 12.5 soundbloc to up the ceiling mass even more. Works well at keeping down the sound of washing machine running at night. I did consider using resiliant bar to help...

Yeah, thats something that had crossed my mind, just not sure how neat I could get the silicone and was pondering how much air gap there needed to be.

Pipe into gully... Any tips to make it quieter?

Thanks for the ideas. I had a bit of a play with the pipe into the gully. Aiming water onto the side of the gully made a noticable difference, and changed the freaquency of the sound. It went from being quite thunderous and deep to a much lighter splashing sound. Covering up the grill as well...

Pipe into gully... Any tips to make it quieter?

Yeah the sound is airborne, the gully is in an allyway which makes the sound echo and reverberate a lot.

Pipe into gully... Any tips to make it quieter?

I'm currently rearanging waste pipes ready for a new kitchen layout. The pipework runs through the wall into a gully outside. Currently when dishwasher or washing machine pump out it makes quite loud splashing gurgling noises as the water enters the gully. Is there any tricks to reduce the...

Evohome with UFH and limit thermostat to protect vinyl floor...?

I've got an underfloor heating circuit in my kitchen which has a limit thermostat on the outgoing pipework from the pump to the heating circuits in the floor. The power to the circulating pump goes through it and if the water gets too hot it cuts the pump off to protect the floor. Won't be as...
