Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Looks like when they did the kitchen, the original socket backed out to the spur. Since then, they've moved the socket to the side of where the spur goes through the wall so won't be able to pull the old cable out or use the existing hole. Guess i'll just have to drill straight through the...

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Ah ok in that case it's not 4mm. All 3 were single solid cores

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Ah gotcha. I'm going to check, but I highly doubt it as what I assume we're the original sockets were in there. They wires were relatively easy to fit into the new socket, can't imagine 4mm would be particularly easy

    Not sure I follow?

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Yeah. I've got some sockets I've put off replacing because of this so maybe I'll still get someone in What about the part p stuff for building regs, although I assume this doesn't apply as it's a spur? Just seemed a bit odd running a ring off a spur!

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Interesting. Is that something that can be done DIY as it's a spur?

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

As in, replace the cable going to the spurred socket with 4mm, and keeping the rest as is?

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Yep, kitchen is already on an RCD. Guess I'll keep looking for a Sparky who knows what they're on about. Assuming extending a ring main isn't something I can do myself?

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Fully accessible. The socket it spurs from is on the shared wall. Goes out the back of the kitchen socket into the garage. Garage is single skin so all wiring in there is exposed

Extending ring main for garage conversion?

Not sure what to think at the moment. We have a tandem garage that is connected to our kitchen. The socket in the garage is a spur from the kitchen. The previous owners converted half of the garage to a kids playroom, however they created a new ring for this room off that spur.. As a side...

Makita combi drill burnt out motor?

Thanks. I took my 456 to pieces to see if I could see anything obvious. The carbon plates on the motor are fine, plenty in them. Motor still spins. In the gearbox, all of the gears still haven't plenty on them, none of them are worn or show signs of damage. The sound must be coming from...

Makita combi drill burnt out motor?

Thanks for the detailed reply. A gearbox would actually make more sense. I hastily ordered the direct replacement of the 456, the 482Z. I'm not in the trade, and I've finished most of the renovation in my home, so other than finishing stud work and building a desk in my office, it'll probably...

Makita combi drill burnt out motor?

I was trying to cut a hole with a hole saw through some solid timber earlier, and I got a bit greedy towards the end and just went for it. Bad move, as my dhp456 started smoking, the noise went from that smooth whine to a rough spinning sound and there were some small pops. I believe this is a...

    Studwork packing

I've got solid insulation on my walls (75mm) and I am now framing it for the plasterboard. It needs framing as there are some concrete pillars to go around. I also need to slightly add some 12mm packers as the studwork won't clear the column. The question I have is. Should I put the Packers...

Partially Floating desk on 75mm rigid insulation

I'm currently installing 75mm of rigid insulation onto a single skin brick wall. That will then have a void of 2cm or so for media cables, followed by plasterboard. When finished, this wall will hold a solid wood desk that is 2.5m long, supported at one side by a leg, and the other side being...

    Reduce limescale in water?

Hmm, that's a little bit annoying since I don't have anywhere to put it other than in the loft but this then means washing machine etc don't use it. The alternative is in the garage, but that then softens all water.

    Reduce limescale in water?

We suffer from quite bad limescale in our area, and I think it is slowly damaging things we can't descale such a shower valves, pumps, taps etc. As an example, our 2 year old shower mixer is now leaking, and after about a day, there are red/pink splatters all around the bath where residue has...

Gauge Wire for Lighting Comms Cabinet?

It's the cheapest DP Din Rail switch there is. The circuit isn't pulling 100A. Not sure why you think this is an issue? I'm going to "assume" (without doing any calculations here) that as each Dimmer has 6 LEDs or max 5m of LED strips on them, that 1.5mm wire inside the cabinet is sufficient...

Gauge Wire for Lighting Comms Cabinet?

Thanks, I didn't actually mean to put MCB there as its just a 100A DP Switch since its already behind one.

Gauge Wire for Lighting Comms Cabinet?

I'm putting together a comms cabinet that will house all my automation for lighting. As a quick overview, the wiring currently looks like this (yes, I know the earthed switch wire is missing): Sparky is dealing with wiring in the lights and switches, but I need to hook up inside the comms...
