Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

Very good question! My field is not designing of boiler controllers, but the stuff I design IS safety critical, designed for manufacture and RELIABLE. Also, this is not the first boiler controller I have reverse engineered: I did the same for 3 versions of PCB used on Baxi Solo boilers. See...

Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

A picture is worth a million words... or rather a schematic. Having a schematic to hand is a must for fault finding beyond the obvious. What I see is: Mains filter -> switched mode PSU -> 24V -> Regulator -> 5V. Loads of connectors -> filters & level shifters -> processor I/O. Mains...

Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

What stood out about this design after completing the schematic was the utter lack of ESD protection. A lot of processor pins are simply tracked straight to connectors thus wired to the outside world, snaking off to wherever! AND the design has an on-board ESD generator, the circuit used to fire...

Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

True, but I did not change the inherent design of the controller. I have only copied it (out of sheer boredom).

Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

Yes. Photographed the bottom of the PCB & mirror imaged it. Using a 2 monitor setup, that image was always on one monitor. Then I visually copied the top tracking and at the same time making the schematic - if the schematic did not match the tracking then an error would appear, hence IF my PCB...

Gas pipe too small, inspection camera advise needed

Well, I for one would do this... doh! ...and yes would save... Damn! ...Google has the answer! According to Wikipeadia "Threading a 22mm pipe and feeding it down cavity wall"... DAMN YOUR EYES! Busted! Every time.

^ maybe, but I have had enough snot coming (fnarr fnarr) out of me as it was. GF wasn't going anywhere near me either. Oh, cruel world.

Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

It helped me to replace a 50p capacitor instead of spending £100 on a new PCB and now my water is hot, house warm. Also I was bored, stuck in doors with man-the-fk-up flu. No, I'm not an RGI and hence no Gassy type things were touched.

Sounds like I DEFINITELY need one of these. I can shout "WORK YOU EFFING BAST*RD BOILER AND STOP COSTING ME MONEY YOU EFFN TART!" ...and then viola!!! The effin thing will work! Happy days. ;) A

Glow Worm (Valliant) UltraCom 30cxi schematic

Hi, In trying to fix the control PCB for my boiler, I reverse engineered a schematic that then showed me where the fault was. I now share this in the hope that it may now help others. Note: This is a FULL circuit diagram and INCLUDEs components NOT FITTED (N/F) to the PCB - for this I...

Combi boiler problems: What are your opinions please?

hmmm. Can pre-heating be turned off? Sounds like a waste of good gas to me. No doubt there is a good reason for it though. FWIW I am reverse engineering the control board to gain a schematic. 95% done so far and 100% copied the PCB design. Thanks for all the replies. Andy

Combi boiler problems: What are your opinions please?

Ahh. really! Could well have been like this for the last 8 years! Where can I find said link please?!?! Apparently this boiler was installed by the previous owners dad who was a 'Master builder' and 'Corgi registered'. (My Arris) NOT that my solicitor could find ANY record of this...

Combi boiler problems: What are your opinions please?

Combi-boiler: Glow Worm UltraCom 30cxi Installed: 2007 Serviced: From the log book, never. Issues found: Stuck diverter valve: Moved into my new home November last year. Immediately noticed problems with hot water in so much as the radiators would warm up too. 'Solved' this somewhat by...

    Buzzing Boiler

I'm probably posting for the sake of posting, but if the noise is attuned to the speed of the pump then surely it must be pump related or moving water related (e.g. cavitation). Resulting noise being transmitted through water pipes, amplified by radiators etc. Guessing amature of course whom...

    Room Thermostat

Interesting read. After asking (on this forum) if I should invest in weather compensation, the answer was "don't waste your money". Now I'm wondering if I should. Andy
