Done a bit of research & I remembered that this only started to happen after I ran windows update. Turns out that due to some kind of dispute, applying update KB912945 causes this problem! & the only way around it is to uninstall the update. So heres a warning to people about to update XP...

And should this cure problems with flash movies?

I`ve changed the security settings in each zone to allow active x controls to run without a prompt but i`m still getting the same thing! What a pain in the arris! Might switch to a Mac now that they`re powered by Intel & not Motorola.

The last few times that i`ve gone to open a sound file or flash movie on a webpage, a text box appears under the cursor that says "click to activate this", also if I watch a video on a webpage & I hover over it, a line appears around media player & I get the same as above, but if I single click...

I uninstalled the old driver first & then installed the latest driver, but the sound works fine with the new driver except I can`t switch from 2 channel sound or crank up the bass, so i`ll stick with the old driver until I find a solution :?

I upgraded the driver of my m/board sound card just to see if it would improve anything & now the Realtek sound manager won`t open up. The input wizard pops up when it detects something plugged into one of the sockets but sound manager won`t open up to let me tweak the EAX or equalizer settings...

can`t try spinrite as I they don`t accept solo as a payment method & i`ve managed to salvage most of the important stuff & backup it up to an extenal drive.

Partition magic might fix some problems but what about the stuff i`ve lost & what are these mysterious files that keep appearing?

drive F has always been F & i`ve created a new partition in the empty space but i`m still getting the corrupt file or folder error & another one of these mysterious files has appeared since I rebooted which apparently was created on the 30/05/1981 !

I have the retail version of XP & is a repair install the same as re-installing XP over an existing copy of XP when you screw things up?

XP won`t start in any mode, so i`ll try the third option, but i`m looking at bigger drive so I might just fit a new drive & start from the beginning

I took the harddrive out of my old PC & put it into the new one, but XP just won`t boot. Bios detects the drive & the boot file & then a stop error on a blue screen pops up & then the PC reboots itself. I`ve been through all of the bios settings & disabled & enabled different settings but XP...

I`m looking at graphics cards for my new PC & the nvidia 6600gt seems like the one for me, but it has sli for running two GPU`s together but my m/board isn`t capable of sli & I wondered if it would work on my m/board just as a plain old video card? :?

When I said that i`ve decided on a board, I actually meant bought & i`m building it in a Jeantech Butterfly V3 case. All thats left to do now is to get a CPU, GPU & some DDR2 memory which doesn`t seem cheap!
