self employment (Private or Contract work)

Paul, do you fancy coming in with me on a large housing development in the scarborough area? First and second fix on two/three bedroom houses, bathroom and ch? don't have full details yet, but it is not daily travelling distance for me, so it would mean me lodging up there.

Are Vaillant Condensing boiler's worth it?

Lorraine, A little learning is a dangerous thing. You are in no way qualified or experienced enough to offer advice on boiler/gas work. The compact boiler is just that- a boiler. It does not contain a prv, an expansion vessel or pump. These will easily add up to the cost of the system...

    Leaky Rad system

When you fill a sealed system thru filling loop the water is pretty aerated, this works it's way out of the system thru aav, microleaks etc. 1/2 bar drop is not unusual over a couple of months. That's what i tell my customers anyway, as i gallop away toward Brokeback mountain...

    Combi for under £950

Tony, I wouldn't worry about the spares too much. Went to a non-condensing 100 the other day (noisy system) been in for 7 years - householder told me 4 others on the street, none had ever been even serviced and they all run like new! Any problems with new installations and they get an engineer...

    Combi for under £950

As a Viessman approved installer, I will confirm that their tech support / supply chain is awful, the boilers are a pain to set up till you get used to them. But given all this, I still recommend them as they are superb machines.

    leak from composite valve

Chris, you can get modureg seperatley prt 20233. Have decided to replace whole valve though. My advice, under no circustances work on a ravenheat boiler. Especially for a mate. Up to 240 quid in parts now plus powerflush, and 18 hours labour... For not a lot ofcash.

    Steel pipes

How so? I choose my my customers, just as much as they choose me. jdey wrote: If I had the pipework replaced, the plumber could do a bad job with the joints, resulting in leaks in inaccessible areas. This is apparantly a not uncommon occurrence Nice !- of course we plumbers love...

    leak from composite valve

Got a 2mb leak on a ravenheat/honeywellcomposite gas valve where the modureg joins main body. Probably a failed rubber washer. Ravenheat do not supply these on their own - only with modureg at £72 + vat!!! Any one any suggestions on replacement washer? Cheers, Cowboy
