Replacing a built in oven --- my assumptions

Hi, I am wanting to replace a built in oven that was installed more than 10 years ago. Looking behind the oven there is a substantial supply cable (hard to bend, possibly 30A) coming direct from the cooker box mounted just above the work surface. The cooker box is connected direct to the 30A...

replaced boiler CH now barely warm

My neighbour who lives in the same type of semi as me with the same type of CH system has just had his condensing boiler replaced (nothing else). His radiators are now barely warm. Is there something simple that the gas safe man has overlooked? He is now suggesting that he installs a two pipe...

    gas pipes near electrics

Regulations state that these pipes have to be more than 25mm apart or 150mm if near distribution box or sockets unless they are electrically insulated. What does this mean? All electrical cables are covered with insulation. Does this apply to pipes and cables that cross at right angles or just...

    earth bonding under sink

I noticed that the hot and cold water feeds under the sink are bonded with an earth wire back to the electric meter. I guess that this means the stainless steel sink is also bonded through the tap fixing. I have to replace the tap and will change some of the original copper pipe feeding the tap...

greenstar 24i --- where is the water going?

Hi, My boiler is loosing pressure. I can top it up to 2 bar and in a couple of days it's down near zero. I have checked the radiator valve for leaks and the pipe work to the boiler. All seems OK. I'm only hoping there isn't a big surprise building up in the ceiling!!!! So, if there is a...

    Garage flat roof leaking

The roof is over 10 years old and is therefore well outside the roofers guarantee period and I guess it is due for replacement. But in the mean time I am looking to coat what appears to be the leaking bits. I have been looking on the web at Everbuild Evercryl one-coat, Everbuild Black Jack 905...

Routing gas pipes to fire in lounge

Definitely not doing the job Agile. Wife would go mad! My installer is waiting for parts for the gas fire he has just serviced and will not be getting back to me until he gets them. So I'm about to pull back the bedroom carpet to see which way the joist run. The distance between clips was to...

Routing gas pipes to fire in lounge

I am NOT a registered gas fitter and I will NOT be touching anything to do with the pipe work. The gas man has cut off my gas fire because he has detected a leak in the 60 year old pipe buried in the concrete floor of the lounge. He said that he would approve a new pipe that could go up the...

Beko LA87 Fridge seems too cold

I have checked on the web and found that the operating temperature for a domestic fridge is between 1 and 5 degrees C. At the moment our fridge is about 3 degrees and the thermostat dial is on 1 (the warmest setting). I turned the dial to 3 (the mid setting) and the fridge temperature moves to 0...

    Sharp Microwave R-270SLM doesn't

My microwave oven has suddenly stopped heating. I've had the top off and checked for burnt out component. There are none. Checked the internal low voltage fuse. OK. The light works, fan works, turntable rotates, electronic display works, just won't heat. I guess the magnetron has gone. So about...

Has Anyone Heard Of ,Condensation Damaging Vertical Blinds

Big problem in my 3 bedroom semi. 3 upstairs windows have vertical blinds and they are all getting dark grey mold spots on the lower parts facing the window. In winter, depending on humidity levels, there is usually condensation forming on the windows by first thing in the morning. (I suppose I...

Is there a programmable landline telephone?

I would like to store a list of numbers that would allow the phone to ring once and then go straight to the answerphone, other numbers would say ring 6 times before going to answerphone. All "Number Withheld" would be in the first category together with any specific or generic numbers I select...

    Fridge motor won't stop running

I have a 6 year old Frigidaire RL6003B which has worked fine until now. The motor is now running all the time. The fridge gets cold but not excessively so. Am I likely to get problems with a fridge this old? Is there a DIY fix? Or is it time to buy a new fridge? Thanks Mike

Hi, My daughter has a water meter on the back wall of her house. However the house is due to be extended and this wall moved out. The meter needs to be moved to the side wall. Quote from Yorkshire Water £420 plus Vat. This seems a bit steep to me. Do they have to do the job? Can her local...
