Screw holes on pine staircase filled with plastic dowels - how to rectify?

if these plugs are glued in and any surplus glue oozing out has been smeared around the surrounding wood surface and not cleaned off properly , you'll get patchy colour when stain is applied (as glue repels the stain) and I'm guessing thats what you have got here looking at the image.

    Need advice buying a jigsaw.

cheap jigsaws are only any good for cutting up to about 18mm thick really. Any thicker and the blade will wander and the cut wont be at right angles. Also you will need to keep changing blades as they blunt. Jigsaws and any type of straight edge guide is a waste of time as again the blade will...

    Repairing a L shape bookshelf

get it fixed together so its stable and aligned, slap some 2 pack woodfiller in the gappy bits, sand flat and paint. The only thing that will possibly go wrong after that is you will get a hairline crack along the joint.

Advice much appreciated on staircase 'restoration'

polished wood staircases in homes are more dangerous than carpeted in the context of getting injured as a result of using them because alot of people walk round the house in socks.... socks and polished/ oiled wood = increased chance of slipping.

    Wood staining/waxing/ oiling question..

am going to be awkward here sorry - I work with woodwork and finishing all day long and if these were my stairs I'd carpet them without a doubt. Too much work to make these stairs look "right' even if you (I) could actually achieve a great end result - are the hours and hours of work worth it...

Help fixing a chest of drawers

ok, there may be another option and that is to let in a strip of wood into the worn bit. ie mark a line with a knife dead parallel with the good edge of the rebate on the outside of the damaged edge. Then carefully chisel out until the rebate is widened then cut a strip of hardwood and glue...

Help fixing a chest of drawers

you would have to use a router - tricky job for anyone not used to one so sounds like this is out as an option in this case?. And yes re. my comment about cutting to the widest point that would include the red outline. You have to increase the width of the groove (rebate) in the drawer side. Do...

Help fixing a chest of drawers

I'd be tempted to replace the runners with new and make them wider so as to accommodate the wear on the drawer grooves. Then you would need to rout the drawer grooves wider to match the wider runner. If doing this, it doesnt matter if you damage the existing runner so just dig the staples out...
