Hah, I was worried I’d smash the clay pipes when demolishing it, but all was good. As for trying to get a builder in to change this to one with a flat lid though… Christ, no one calls back :cry:

Hah, I’m probably explaining this poorly, but what I mean is that I guess I need the frame of the manhole to be tiled up to and within as opposed to just over the top, otherwise I’ll end up laying the LVT straight back over the top of it. Similar to this:

It’s not come out easily, and I presumed it’s anchored in somehow to prevent the hole thing lifting up when the cover is removed?

Thanks @tell80 for the pointers - I ended up having a local plumber out with a CCTV camera, as per my other thread, the sink drain had become blocked. That was full of fat and detergent, and luckily his rod pushed it through, with the camera showing it running free after. He looked at this...

Yes they are - I guess it either came pre-poured or it was filled at the time of fitting, and the lid has a rubber seal with the screws ensuring an air-tight fit.

Now I guess my question should be what does this need replacing with? Assuming it’ll be one of those covers where you see the outline within the flooring, it’ll need bringing up by 9mm to meet the level of the LVT. I take it the whole thing needs replacing and not just the cover?

You’re right - I was expecting a solid metal base, but it’s a grate of rebar type mesh: To answer my own question, a sledgehammer and hammer + bolster - even with keys, I’d never have lifted it.

It is. Judging by the unaltered bungalow next door, this isn’t where the manhole is/was, but rather between the two original, perhaps.

Thanks for the responses above. the bathroom WC basin and bath drain in to it, and it runs towards the sink that’s blocked. Right, so I’ve learned today that the cover is actually concrete and without a metal base. Based on the concrete now being removed and the likelihood of the cover...

Thanks (again) @Hugh Jaleak. It should just be bathroom waste - but as per the missing manhole cover, who knows with this extension! The rainwater drains some 4 odd metres away, but could well link-up..
